I don't think I've ever seen an onside free kick attempt

NFL refs are insanely bad

How dumb do you have to be to believe this? They aren’t bad they are told what to do

I hate them both but that was ridiculous

Caches have a limited number of challenges. Why aren’t penalties like that reviewable??

Two refs were staring right at it

if it’s one thing the NFL knows how to do it’s how to have the rules set up so the wrong cal on the field stands

Maybe the nfl should stop hiring old dudes to be refs I highly doubt they have 20/20 vision or proper reflexes
They’re all lawyers and stuff with connections

It's stupid that that can't be subject to an instant review. Not an official stoppage but an instant review that's called down.

Bro was ready to hit the road and cash that check

If I'm HC of the Vikings I'm getting kicked out of the game after that missed call
I'd keep throwing the challenge flag over and over

Yeah either 1 of 2 things has to happened: someone on that ref crew responsible for that call has to be fired or there has to be a switch to booth review on every controversial play relayed down to a ref. On any play. Nothing at all is non-reviewable.
There was a TD side article about electronic judging whether a batter swings past home plate for a strike or pulls back to where he didn't swing. Someone was like "Oh great robots taking over the game." I chastised him because it's retarded not to have the method that results in the most accurate call. Robot judging camera's, 8 guys in a booth that make their mind up in 8 seconds instead of a ref running over to the sideline for 10 minutes.
It's gotta change. Most importantly, any and everything can be reviewed. It's retarded not to do that.

10 seconds after the call everyone in the building knew it was a bad, potentially outcome changing call and it’s “oh well such is life let’s finish up”

Kickoffs are live balls, punts aren't ?
Then why does the clock stop for live ball (doesn’t start until kickoff is touched by receiving team), but run during a dead ball?

I mean holy shiteballs, what if this happened in a playoff game?

I don’t understand why we can’t get something that holds the officials accountable. A grading system that’s based on the calls made and missed during each game would be pretty simple.
It has to be something other than “whoops sorry they missed it” non response in a day or two.

Remember that not only do the refs have an ear piece to NY, they actively admit to it with their "swift review" and other acknowledgements this year. And in previous years we have seen the on field refs "discuss" a play, wait for a replay and word from NY, and then suddenly change their on field call and no call.
And yet this most blatant frickup is ignored. It's not an accident.

Clear PI when saints and Vikings were in playoffs few years ago. Changed rule for a year that it could be reviewable on a penalty. The next year it was squashed.

Why are there different rules for kickoffs and punts going out of bounds? One is punished harshly and one is rewarded greatly.
Kickoffs are considered a 'free kick'. It's uncontested....nobody is rushing to try and block it. No reason for a kicker to put one out of bounds.
