There is no need to test for it anytime unless suspected in an accident.

I respect the rules in place but on the flip side I am in agreement. Understand everyone is different, but personally I have made more bad decisions under the influence of alcohol than I ever did being high on weed. And never did it make me perform superior athletically. We do have to keep lines drawn, but I also question this one.

Is it really that hard to not smoke weed when you know you may be tested for it at any given moment?

Also, I would assume if a player showed up to practice smelling like beer they would also be in trouble.

How many drug tests do you have to fail at LSU to get suspended?

Or maybe we could just have players that follow the rules.

spent enough time in high school being a stoned idiot surrounded by other stoned idiots. It's a natural progression that we should outgrow as we mature into adults, not something that we should try to carry with us into maturity. I'm not talking medical pot for cataracts or cancer or glaucoma. I'm talking dispenseries where anyone can buy chronic and walk outside and get baked. Live in that world for a week and see where your opinion lie

Thought about this. But CO basically has it as a tourist attraction. If it was legal everywhere, the shite heads wouldn't be all in one place. People moved to Colorado from all over the country for weed.

I just see how dangerous one legal substance is and don't think people using weed deserve harsh punishments compared to drinkers. Or to even be seen as worse.

Plenty of articles stating over half of the NFL uses.

Exactly. A lot of these folks don't realize just how prevalent it is. Literally half of your favorite NFL team smokes regularly. But RULES. GET OFF MY LAWN.

Well why don't we test all students then? Why just football players? Why not test under 21 students for alcohol? Seriously, they need to follow the rules. Kick them out if they don't.

as we all have but to change the rules to make things "easier" is just stupid.
it's not about making it "easier".

it's about what is right. there is no reason for marijuana to be illegal or tested for in college athletes.

Obviously you have no concept of TEAM. The fact that the unit of the team is dependent on the reliability of the individual makes everyone on that team dependent on each other. They are dependent on their team mate to be responsible for his actions on and off the field for the betterment of the whole team. Any behavior that would jeopardize the TEAM as a hold is nothing short of individualism and SELFISHNESS. If a regular student smokes weed or gets drunk every night of the week that behavior only effects that one student and no one else. For a football player to smoke weed knowing the consequences and the effect it will have on his team can only be described as the ultimate example of selfishness!!! For some reason this generation has a problem grasping the concept of COMPLIANCE.. it's amazing how it works.. so "One Team, One Heartbeat"... right? or is that just for the cameras??

we shouldn't change the rules because they are the rules.

it only affects the team because of drug testing. it's not terrible for you and it shouldn't be illegal.

Testing for weed is pointless.

And if it's about judging performance, you have to test for alcohol.

All of these are an invasion of privacy without probable cause that you committed a crime like crashing a car.

Athlets just like people have probably way more nefarious prescription shite in their systems that nobody cares about and does far more damage long-term.

If I was told I had a free ride to LSU if I didn't smoke weed for 4yrs, I believe I could do it. I don't understand why it's so hard for people to not smoke weed when you are given a chance to make millions of dollars or get a free education. I worked 26yrs in an industry that does not allow it's employees to smoke weed for a helluva lot less money.

I agree 100%. But all of this is besides the point.

Until it is federally legal, then enforce the rules equally amongst all.

While we are at it, lets stop testing airline pilots too. I mean, what could go wrong? Its legal now, right?

Besides, its not like these guys will slam into each other a full speed. Having a sluggish pothead on the field shouldn't be a problem

Only way this works is if the NFL stops as well. Cant stop testing it in college and then start back testing in the NFL.

wrong

it squeezes the glycogen out of the liver and you can dance.

also illegal in boxing. big advantage in boxing.

it does not last, so only an advantage for a while in football.

in boxing, with the right dose, you win a couple of rounds, maybe stun the opponent or knock out.

Jesus Christ.

Playing football is carrying the lives of 100 souls in your hands? (well, maybe in Alabama at the local Dairy Queen) but how is that comment relevant?

If you have a job that requires performance that puts people's lives at risk or endangers co-workers then you test...

If you have a job that doesn't, lonely landscape painter or athlete - you are only allowed to test - IF you caused an accident or something that injured someone.
