It's irrelevant, but why do people assume he would have made a birdie? The ball landed at the hole, it was going to hop 1-2 more times and end up 6-8 feet past. That's why he said he dropped further back and took a little bit off of the next shot(which was the perfect distance).

Well why didn't he just drop it 3" to the left or right and avoid the flag? They guys are good, just not that good.

Because his distance was off about 4 yards....Did you watch the interview that I linked? He hit the pin that means that if the was to the right he would have gone PAST the pin.

You realize that every club doesn't go the exact same distance every time?

That is a much better picture.

No shite. However this is a guy who makes his living to make that same club go as close as possible to that same distance by training himself to make the same muscle movements over and over and over and over and over and over and over. Once again did you watch the interview? He obviously thought 100% that going back 2 yards+taking a little off his swing would be the best possible shot. However the rules dont allow for that.

With this new after the fact rule, why would anyone ever call a penalty on themselves?
1. Commit penalty
2. Act like it didn't happen
3. Hope on one saw it.
4. Wait for some bozo to call it in
5. During confrontation, state you didn't realize you committed a penalty.
6. Next day, take the 2 stroke penalty you were supposed to take on yourself in the first place.
7. No love lost, move on.

Question...if a guy says I dropped my ball in a place to get a better shot...but really didn't drop his ball in a place to get a better shot...would it be a penatly?

Yep, a dangerous precedent has been set.

Good news is that it wasn't a PGA or USGA sanctioned event.

I don't care about the whole intended to, didn't intend to, grounded the club, whatever bullshite threeputt is talking about, but I have two issues with the abomination was saw this weekend.
1.When there are about 10 guys that are getting everyone single one of their shots reviewed by TV and no one else is, it isn't a level playing field. Angel Cabrera could have done the same shite on Friday and we would still not be the wiser because the shots weren't taped and the dude just didn't bring it up cuz he doesn't get 5 thousand questions like Tiger does. Video review loses all credibility if only some of the players have it used on them. There is no integrity in that whatever the hell you purists think or say. And if you don't think guys abuse the letter of the law with drops and such, go to a tourney. Me and my brother were just talking about how many incorrectly allowed drops we see at the Zurich every year with some schmo who's 12 shots out and is just trying to finish the round and get out of dodge. I literally saw an official give a guy a drop because he complained that he was behind a tree. That's it. Good thing it wasn't on TV where the peanut gallery could call in and cause an uproar of self righteousness. It's the PGA's rules. Its for them to enforce.
2. There should be a timetable for you to be able to overturn this crap before it just makes you look ridiculous. I don't know what's best but like a hour after the last putt, done. We aren't looking back. I don't really give a flying shite if Tiger cheated or if he didn't or if he intended to cheat or didn't. There is a rules official THAT IS STANDING 5 frickING FEET AWAY to catch it and enforce the rules. Then if you want to bust his arse at the scorers table fine, but at certain point, it's done. I can't imagine any other freaking sport where they are going penalize a team or a player freaking HOURS later after the event had shut down for the day.
"Hey, Nadal, we rewatched your match at 10 pm last night and that serve you hit to win yesterday? Your toe was an inch on the baseline. You and the guy you beat have to come back out and replay the point today? WTF are you talking about?
I don't really care who is right. But y'all are acting like players don't do this crap every tournament and push and try to intimidate officials into favorable drops and whatnot and y'all are acting like golf is the holy grail of honesty.
I swear if I hear another jerk on a pedestal talk about the integrity of the game. Give me a damn break. Are we seriously comparing the Masters to some backwoods college golf tournament?

The rules of golf don't change based on the level of the play.

Well damnit, you ruined by argument with one line. I didn't realize that backwoods college tourney's had replay and videotaped interviews with all the players after each round.
Ever thought that some rules are broadly applied? You think that Tiger and maybe half the tour have done that exact same thing before and the rules officials said yeah that's fine and that's why he and the officials at the spot let it roll?
And as to intent. Is stating your intention BEFORE striking the ball the same as relaying your intent hours later on something you weren't asked about at the time the same?
