What's wrong w/today's NBA..

Levine & Gordon are marginal players--yet celebrated because of dunks--NBA more about style than substance.

He's not wrong. They both kinda suck.

The message is right, but I get that the spirit of the message is to disparage the NBA.

Style over substance would be letting the best players compete in the slam dunk contest because they are the best players instead of letting the best possible dunkers compete. The best dunkers competed last night.

If anything last night, the NBA was substance over style.

first, the all-star weekend is about different contests and not in-game ability. if they got all-star selections for winning or some recognition, then he'd have a point. nobody gave a flying frick when jason kapono was celebrated for winning the 3 point contest 2 years in a row

also, many years ago the dunk contest became a showcase for young NBA talent that the mass audience didn't really know

that's where they found vince carter, dwight howard, blake griffin, etc

gordon/lavine are 2nd year players and both about 20. they're actually progressing along just fine for being so young

He's right. I'm an old fart who grew up watching Bill Russell, Bob Cousy, Wilt, Oscar and all the other greats. The era of MJ, Magic, & Larry was great. I don't watch today's NBA.

Where exactly is the "substance" to any all-star related competition or game in any sport? (i.e. Boring, pointless HR derby)

None of it matters in the grand scheme of things. Except for the baseball all-star game, which is stupid.

Dude must be new to dunk contests. Plenty of c rated NBA players have won. Can we get a % of basketball hof'ers who won a dunk contest? I'm capping at 3% max, likely half that.

Because I watched enough to realize today's NBA isn't worth watching.

I'm fine with his opinion as long as he hates college basketball as much as he hates the NBA. The people who praise college basketball while bashing the NBA are the absolute worst.

Now you're just trolling. Today's NBA is pretty compelling. Even the regular season.

Well no one is celebrating the players more than the dunks they performed. They are also young. And substance has continued to win championships in the NBA, not style. Dude is an idiot.
