Todays players:
- make the bag..many millions of dollars in contacts
- technology and training is better
- load management is a thing for these players

Old Timers
- didnt make as much as todays players
- they seem to play more and last longer in a season. There was no such thing as load management.
- didnt have the diff drinks and food that are specialized for their sports that they have now.

Are todays athletes better than the ones of yester year? I dont think so.

Better athletes? Yes
Tougher? No

The players today are more skilled, on average, than players of yesteryear

Players are more skilled now than ever because they've focused on that skill their entire life. They are also bigger, stronger, faster, etc...

Old timers were great athletes for their generation who would have probably been excellent at multiple sports. However, they were no were near the level of today's players.

Derrick Henry would run for 500 yards a game and knock a few teeth out. While today's player would miss 2 weeks with dental surgery those players would pick up their teeth, put them in their pocket, and line right back up.

Idk about more skilled…take NBA for example…most players nowadays “carry” the ball…thats not dribbling…its more one on one…not playing within an offense (exception is golden state today and utah jazz with stockton/malones pick n roll comes to mind)..might be the softening up on the rules that cheapend the game in the last 20 yrs or so.

Boxing..had some great heavy weights in the 60s,70s and 80s…where they at now?…UFC? They would get killed if they played back then

NFL…yeah they bigger and stronger nowadays cuz of their diet so this argument fails here

Baseball…give me the old times all day every day in this sport…todays players dont stack up to them

Would be nice if someone could make a time machine and transport some players from the past to compete nowadays and see.

Question:

Dream Team in their prime versus a dream team of current players in their prime?

What happens? Seems like a good comparison for the thread since we're talking about 30 years.

What in the f?

There's a lot more skill/movement today than in the 80s and FOR SURE the 90s. The 90s was all clear out iso ball.

And the players in the future will be more skillful than the ones today. The cycle repeats.

If old time players had the same modern training methods and equipment they’d be every bit as good as players today

I can remember when football players used to play nicked up or hurt. Now if they get tackled the wrong way or in a way they don’t like they limp off the field to get checked out every single time. They are soft

they did not have those methods, so you aren't making some significant point here.

I truly believe Wilt Chamberlain would ball on the guys today. Imagine Wilt with todays knowledge growing up learning better ball handling and euro steps for example, but even without that He was an excellent athlete considering he had well over a 40 inch vert and did track at Kansas in college. He was very strong also and rumored could bench press 500 lbs… he was also much tougher than most of todays players…

That would be one old timer I’d like to see play today…
