The timing of it doesn't seem like it has anything to do with this and there are many, many other explanations that are as or more likely to be true.
I watched the Discovery ID special on the disappearance of Gricar, and being tied into this scandal is actually the only explanation that would make sense. The timeline fits right with the original 1998 - 1999 allegation that Gricar was in charge of investigating against Sandusky. Throw in the whole cult like behavior of everyone in this town and the startling things now being brought forth through the grand jury indictment onwards and it's not such a stretch to connect some dots here.

You don't think that there is any connection? It's State College, PA. It's not NYC where people are reported missing all the time.

No, he didn't. There's no "pretty much did." He did not. But I understand why you think he did.

Why isn't espn reporting this? waiting for a reliable source?
No way they start reporting that without at least SOME semblance of proof. That's irresponsible journalism and warmongering with no proof (if you're a reputable source).

The new rumor is that Penn State was using the Second Mile program as slush fund to pay players, making the NCAA able to get involved.
I'd rather believe this rumor than the aforementioned, that one's too much to bare.

Third, as a DA you make a lot of enemies with a lot of dangerous people. Fourth, his brother committed suicide and his car was found near the area where it happened, IIRC.

Believing these events are connected is definitely a reasonable conclusion. ESPECIALLY if big time powerful people were involved in the scandal.

After the news spread, Madden later explained via Twitter why he went public with the rumors.
"I normally abhor giving RUMORS credence," Madden wrote. "But whole Sandusky scandal started out as a RUMOR. It gets deeper and more disgusting all the time. One of state's top columnists investigating. That adds credence. I am NOT rumor's original source. [Why does] Sandusky deserve benefit of doubt?"
Madden also spoke more definitively on Dennis and Callahan to the cover-up efforts at the school and beyond that he expects will be made public soon.
"The other thing I think that may eventually become uncovered, and I talked about this in my original article back in April, is that I think they'll find out that Jerry Sandusky was told that he had to retire in exchange for a cover-up," Madden said. "If you look at the timeline, that makes perfect sense, doesn't it?
"My opinion is when Sandusky quit, everybody knew -- not just at Penn State," Madden added. "I think it was a very poorly kept secret about college football in general, and that is why he never coached in college football again and retired at the relatively young age of 55. [That's] young for a coach, certainly."

You have a perception problem. Your indignance that people would paint PSU with a broad brush is probably better aimed at your morally complicit administration and coach, your media that fulfills no watchdog function, and your tone-deaf students.
I'm the one with a perception problem? I'm not the one calling all Penn State students, alumni, teachers, etc. pedophiles. I'm vilifying those that are responsible and defending those that are not. Clearly, I'm not the one with a perception problem, some of you are.

I would expect that the latest investigation led, or would have led to questions about how he handled the initial investigation.

FWIW-I don't really care. I'm not really one to attack or target individual posters (unless occasionally I am in the process of debating them and they open themselves up for it).

lol yea, as DA of State College, Pa. A PART TIME JOB, I'm sure he made enemies with many dangerous criminals, much akin to Harvey Dent in Gotham City
There has obviously been some sort of coverup at Penn State. It wouldn't surprise me if Gricar was bought and then later on, started talking and then was silenced.
Have you read about the culture of PA? Do you not see how it's possible, especially considering how controlled the flow of information was?

quote:Agreed, but my understanding is that he went missing in 2005 and the latest investigation didn't begin until 2008. I may be off on my dates. I am going strictly from memory and I have read a bunch of different articles, so I may be getting dates confused.
I would expect that the latest investigation led, or would have led to questions about how he handled the initial investigation.

You = Penn State. Go play intramurals, brotha.

It is completely unfounded, rumor at this point. You don't go with something like this without some significant corroborating evidence.
Yea that's what I thought. If ESPN did this and it turned out false, it would kill Penn State's image (what's left of it) and kill ESPNs creditability.

You guy lay off oates mustache. your idiotic to lump every single PSU person into this mess. He is a good poster and is furious about these events just like most of us are.
