It's baseball. Their post-season already sucked, then the wildcard expansion made it worse. It basically rewarded teams for getting hot at the end of the season, while punishing teams that won their divisions.
But its all about money like with everything else and they wanted more games for more money.

Go back to the true pennant. Best regular season record wins each league. If there is a tie, you can implement a 3 game series.
Playoffs are fun, but you already know everything you need to know after 162 games. Playoffs make no sense in baseball.

Split the divisions back to pre-1994
4 teams come out of each league, the two division winners then the two teams with the next best records as wildcards
Have all 7 game series.

You are right. Because of starting pitching. That's what differentiates baseball from the other sports.

It sucks. Just go back to the old way of 3 division winners and 1 wild card but make every series best of 7. I never understood why baseball thought the opening round should only be best of 5

Exactly! 162 games determines the best teams. Isn’t that what people want? That’s what I hear all the time in other sports. Get the best teams in. This year’s Detroit Tigers are a prime example of why the new playoff format is bad. Good teams have good starting rotation, not 1-2 guys. The Pirates can beat any team in baseball in a 3 game series if Skenes starts game one. And they’re terrible.

IE 1 game winner take all and if you use your ace to win? Ok then you have burned him from pitching twice in the DS.
3. Didn’t put a division winner on equal ground with the wild card therefore making the regular more meaningful.

Let’s pretend they made the old version. They pitch skubal in the WC game. He’s not available till game 3 for the DS. They have to win 2/4 non skubal pitched games. In a 3 game series in the current format they pitch him game 1 and then have the rest of their staff to piece together just one more win.

Nearly 200 regular season games is really excessive to determine who the best teams are.
Think about being a White Sox fan this year and watching your team lose 121 games.

Lifelong Astros fan here. I’ve always thought it should be 5 for the simple fact that the regular season is so damn long. Doesn’t make sense to play 162 games then just 2 out of 3. As grueling as hockey is, every round is best of 7. I understand baseball doesn’t need that in the first round but 3 out of 5 just makes sense.
