Gator fans like to pretend the SEC forced them to.
the SEC has no say, Florida can schedule who ever they want.
But when the SEC expanded to 12 teams-8 games, that only left 3 OOC. Flordia kept Fla. State.
At that point you have 4home & 4away SEC games & a home/away with FSU. With 2 games left Florida scheduled 2 home games. Add in that Florida played LSU & Auburn as their 2 SEC West teams every year.
had they kept Miami, UF schedule would=
LSU
Auburn
Tenn
UGA
Kentucky
South Carolina
Vandy
Bama/OleMiss/Arkansas/State
Florida State
Miami

Didn't rad all the posts but....
Randal Hill's little explanation about it wasn't his fault they built the tunnel where I scored had to be the dumbest part of the two hours. All of the other players gave insightful reasons for the behavior, and he spouts that shite.
I enjoyed it. Jimmy Johnson gets a lot of credit, but he should have had more than one title. If he controlled his players a little more, they wipe Penn State off the map. He gets a pass these days, but that was epic fail.

It was, and I thought it was funny. Great show.

Before this decade, I thought the 2 best college teams I ever saw didn't win the NC, 83 Nebraska and 86 Miami. Its kinda like LSU 20 years later, the better team (86, 06) did not win, but they won the next year.
If you look at it, Miami was 2 plays from winning 3 in a row. Their only loses in 86 and 88 were to the team that won the NC. In 86 They dominated PSU, the turnovers (read picks) killed them. As bad as Testeverde played, they were still driving with a chance to win when he throws another pick in the red zone at the end.
In 88 at ND, the show focused on the bad call, but they scored late and went for 2 and the win. The play was a lot like Nebraska in the 84 Orange Bowl. The pass was broken up and they lost by 1.

No. Tough to beat an SEC schedule. Six powerhouse programs. LSU also played TAMU on a regular basis when TAMU was at its best.
Last night I was gonna post something but my comp died. I went go look up the SOS from 1980-1994 and it was pretty much a push. Miami seemed to play a harder SOS through the 80s, but in the early 90s LSUs was a bit better.
However this can be contributed to those years where Miami would win double the games LSU would win. So I definitely wouldnt try to argue that Miami played a weaker schedule.
At least during the time the show was about and when miami won the majority of their championships.
eta: one of the years miami played the #2 schedule in the country

Well they have one of the best teams of all time in 2001 and were robbed of a MNC in 2002.
OK, but you did notice that the documentary didn't focus on the program post-Erickson? The documentary also took a swipe at Butch Davis as not being Miami football. Butch Davis built the early 2000's juggernaut and he'd have 2 maybe 3 rings if he had stayed. However, the point of the documentary wasn't about discipline, sportsmanship and winning. It was about NWA and ghetto attitudes. Wasn't it funny how all those supposed badasses were crying after the Fiesta debacle? They succumbed to the same intimidation that they tried on everyone else (congrats, Penn State). They were just really big, powerful juveniles, not grown men.

That wasn't the main point of my post. However, I was rooting for Ohio State and the pass interference was complete and utter bullshite. If it had been LSU in OSU's place, I'd say the same thing. It was a horrible call at a really, really bad time.

so were all the fricking non calls that got Miami to OT. That game was over in regulation if the refs get their shite right the first time.

Whatever. You won the game, be happy about it. My main point is that the documentary played up the negative elements of the program and the players that were interviewed were more than happy to confirm it. Americans have a fascination with gangster behavior (Godfather trilogy, Scarface, the Soprano's, etc.), but do you really want to condone this behavior? It was a national embarrassment. So was Oklahoma's program under Barry Switzer. When the program finally had a class act like Butch Davis, the documentary more or less slammed him. Moral hazard anyone?

I said earlier that the director made the Cocaine Cowboys documentaries where he glorified drug dealers and murderers, and it was a big hit with the streets. I'm sure this was a hit too.

I was thinking the same thing. Players from the Maimi area and South Florida will probably be more pumped to go to Miami and put that school back on the map. I recorded that shite last night and loved every minute of it. Loved watchin those old clips.
