his math is fuzzy, imo

how can 1 loss teams vandy and washington (lsu opponents) be in the top 11?

shite, doesnt make sense from any possible rational equation.

i believe spidey figured out how to include homerism into statistics and this poll is the poster child for such bias.

Exactly.

I can understand USC being ranked in the 50s because OSU's win won't count for much til later in the season when they win 9-10 games. All that makes sense to me.

But how are 1 loss Washington and Vandy ahead of teams like USC or any other 2-0 team for that matter??

Their only loss is to #1 LSU.

FWIW, LSU is ranked #2 in the Colley Matrix Poll. That poll is unbiased and only includes wins and losses.

All we know is that LSU beat both the teams it has played. And both of those teams are undefeated against teams not-named LSU

Without using MOV, expectations, history, or subjective measures...explain to me why LSU SHOULDN'T be #1 or #2

MOV is used in the week 2 poll. the MOV rankings are 5/6 of the total score, and the win-loss only rankings are 1/6.

By week 6 the MOV part of the rankings will be gone.

MOV is calculated as the total share of points from a game - not the actual point difference. For example, if you win 7-3, its counted the same as if you won 21-9. A shut-out win is counted the same as any other shut-out win - 2-0 is the same as 100-0.

I do this because I think straight up absolute MOV difference emphasize offense too much. A 7-3 win really is, IMO, reflects a closeness of playing ability as much as a 14-6 win.

which makes your math wrong, because vandy and washington should not in the top 11.

unless, you included lsu homerism101 into the equation, and if so, my apologies.

I think this illustrates the huge flaw in using nothing but formulas to rank college football teams.

There is no way anyone that knows anything about football could think LSU was the second best team in the country. I know by the end of the year, the computer polls are relatively close to the human polls, which imo validates the human polls more than anything.

Then by all means, point out my error. You can find the algorithm in the "Week 0" post and if you email me I can send you a copy of the C code.

I think its more a question of the point of polling. Do we want a list that reflects a teams past accomplishments, or a list that reflects a teams chances of doing well in the future?

The latter is a prediction based ranking, the former a reward based ranking. The human polls are obviously prediction based, as they are release before a team plays even one game.Florida is #1 in the human polls not because they have accomplished more than any other team to date -but because the pollsters believe that by the end of the season, Florida will have accomplished more than any other team.

unfortunately i have a 7000 level stats course that consumes my time or i would take you up on that offer.

i do not care too much, but something is off with those two rankings, i already looked at the algorithm and this is obvious.

im sure it will pan out in the future after you take out the lsu homerism101 formula.

Is this a poll that tigerdroppings endorses, or is this just something that tuba the arse clown came up with and attached tigerdroppings to it on his own?

you obviously weren't reading what i was saying at all not referencing that in any way and was also not being serious.

however, on what you said, why is lsu #1?
