They only won 87 games, finished 3rd in their 5 team division, they weren’t even the classic “hot down the stretch” team winning 7 of their last 20, but they are going to the World Series making a mockery of the regular season. Spare me then”winning when it counts” that’s just marketing bs you’ve been duped to believe. Anything can happen in a small sample size, especially in baseball a sport where marginal differences play out over time. the 60 wins A’s swept the 106 win Astros in a 3 game set.

Playoffs should have been Dodgers Braves Astros Yankees, the best teams all year

What a pathetic scared little fella

What a pathetic unoriginal comment

I know internet trolls don’t know what standards are but i have long argued against mediocre teams playing for the championship. The Phillies are just the most recent one. It has nothing to do with them playing the Astros.

Nah. It’s going to be nice not seeing Alabama, Ohio State, Clemson, and Georgia as the final four in the playoffs year after year.

That would awesome but if it expands to 12 those schools are guaranteed to make it every year

Not to highjack the baseball playoffs thread (I agree totally with you on that one) but I dont think that is whats going to happen.

In a 4 team playoff, it narrows focus for a short amount of time. It doesn't give a team with a lesser record a chance to get hot like a 12 team format does.

Going to 12 teams gives opens up more chances for those dominate teams to lose focus. Throw in home field advantage, and a lower ranked team that wins an opening round game on the road is suddenly full of confidence with nothing to lose. I can see a 5-12 seed winning the title within a few years.

But that's his point. The 5-12 seeds have no business winning a championship if they weren't good enough on the regular season to be top 4.

By this logic why even have a world series at all? You said it yourself, anything can happen in a short sample size. Let's just award the best record in the regular season the title and go straight to the offseason. Let's do away with the Stanley Cup, the Presidents Trophy winner is now the champion. Let's go back to the days when bowl games were exhibitions that didn't count towards final rankings, etc.

Oh look another retard that doesn’t the simple concept and in the process shows how simple minded you are

I said my preferred field would be Dodgers Braves in the NL now why would I be “afraid” of the Phillies who won a whopping 7 of their last 20 games and prefer a team that beat the Astros last year and had a better season this year? The Braves were also red not, they went 36-18 in Aug-Sep and won their division. I realize logic and thought are not something you can understand but try something more than silly message board jackassery

The BCS championship was meant to resolve the case where 2 undefeated P5 schools never played each other and were relying on AP votes to claim a national championship.

The CFP resolves the case of having 3 undefeated schools in that same scenario.

What problem does expanding CFP solve? As it is team 4 normally gets their teeth kicked in.

Let the fans of, say, number 6 Michigan travel down to Florida for a vacation to a warm New Years bowl game against number 9 TCU. That’s a perfectly valid conclusion to a good but not spectacular amateur athletic year.

Don’t worry about sending them to Georgia for a road game curbstomping in the name of TV views.

Things don’t have to be one extreme (massive playoff fields) or the other (none at all). Though frankly that’s better than watered down fields. As someone mentioned isn’t that what they do in the EPL?

However as I said earlier, rare is there that one team that truly separates themselves as clearly the best team. The 85 Bears, the 86 Celtics the 96 Bulls are examples. Usually there’s a few at the top that are more or less equal, so you have a small playoff and give the winner a trophy. In that regard the current CFB system is the best imo.

And it would most likely be someone like Alabama who stubs their toe against say Texas and loses a close one to Tennessee

Yep. And I agree, a 12 team playoff while great for national interest in the short term will dilute the importance of the reg season in the long term.

I’m sure you have no problem with 8-9 seeds making the final four?

San Diego Padres finished the regular season 22 games behind the dodgers. The dodgers won the season series something like 16-4 against the padres.

Yet they met in the playoffs in a winner move on best of 5.

Either the playoffs, or the regular season, need to be contracted.

So if the Phillies win the WS, then they aren’t the best team in MLB this year? Didn’t they qualify for the playoffs like everyone else? Seems to me if they weren’t good enough to be there they wouldn’t have made it past the first round. Getting hot and winning win it counts is what the playoffs are all about. If a top seed shits the bed against a low seed then that is on them, unless there is obvious frickery going on. I mean I guess someone forgot to tell that 2010 Acadiana High football team they weren’t supposed to win state as a 27 seed too?
