They only won 87 games, finished 3rd in their 5 team division, they weren’t even the classic “hot down the stretch” team winning 7 of their last 20, but they are going to the World Series making a mockery of the regular season. Spare me then”winning when it counts” that’s just marketing bs you’ve been duped to believe. Anything can happen in a small sample size, especially in baseball a sport where marginal differences play out over time. the 60 wins A’s swept the 106 win Astros in a 3 game set.

Playoffs should have been Dodgers Braves Astros Yankees, the best teams all year

Aren't you sort of arguing for the opposite?

Should we just have Duke, Gonzaga, North Carolina and Kentucky just automatically put in the Final Four?

Actually from an Astros perspective I thought the Padres were more of a concern. anything can happen in a short series, the Astros (and Yankees for that matter) are clearly much better teams

Why not just do it like the Premier League if fairness is the goal?

No I’m arguing for the regular season to matter.

Have any games been played? No, then how do we know who the best teams are? Could be those 4 but as Tennessee shows it could be some one else

1 game wild card was dumb, 2 out of 3 is perfect. The NL/AL DS needs to be 4 out of 7. I will agree sitting stagnant while the wild card teams play does build momentum for the wild card teams, that’s why you make it 4 out 7

The goal is not “fairness”. The goal is for the best team or at least one of the best teams to be crowned champion and best team(s) is better determined over a larger sample size ie more games. Sometimes (and it varies by sport) there’s one team that’s clearly the best, most of the time there’s a couple at the top so small field playoffs work best in that regard.

I don’t follow soccer so not real familiar with the EPL but from what I recall I do like their system remind me of the particulars. Is it just the regular season top team?

NO PLAYOFFS

Sounds like you are pretty scared
Of the Phillies. I’ve talked to you for many years on here, and
I have never seen you have a post like this one.

There were only 12-16 teams pre 1969. With 30 teams 4 teams is fine, though this year I think you could argue there were 2 teams, 1 each league that separated themselves

Playoffs, regardless which sport, is all about money. Nothing more, nothing less. Maximize revenue. That’s why games in all sports are painfully long.

Well those teams with the better records should be able to step up their game in the postseason.

100%. That’s why I laugh at the “win when it matters” crowd. It’s all marketing

Baseball and football are not even close to being comparable sports. This is like comparing apple juice to orange juice. Trying to compare the finishing product of two different products.

CFB should still do the BCS system.

Agree with OP, with a 162 game season, there’s no need to have multiple wildcard teams.

Go back to the early 90s where it was two teams in an LCS to determine the WS berth. Otherwise, shorten the regular season.

Hopefully the Houston players aren’t as scared as you. If so, Philly will eat these guys alive.

From one Astros fan to another… don’t be a bitch.

A playoff system brings excitement.

Then you haven’t been paying attention which is not surprising because I’ve advocated for smaller playoffs as long as I’ve been posting on here (really much much longer ). I’ve argued against conference tournaments in college basketball and the CCG in football for the exact same reason. Again from an Astros perspective Musgrove Darvish Hader Soto were a bigger concern

That’s for proving my point sheep

I know this is asking a lot don’t be retards. Why should I be “scared” of the Phillies but not the Padres? Can you make an argument without resorting to lazy childish cliches?

I’m only pointing out the Phillies because they won and don’t deserve to. The Dodgers won 111 games the Braves 101 and they beat the Astros last year I’d rather be playing one if them do tell why I’m “scared” of the Phillies and would rather play a team that beat the Astros last year
