If McCors didn't enter the portal, I still wanted him to ride the pine only for the bowl game to see what the others had.

Olave and Wilson were going pro, who cares about a meaningless Rose Bowl game.

I'm getting down voted for a rational take. But it's good for the players leaving, good for the up and comers, and the program. Not entertaining for fans.

Hell yeah they were! As a young fan, watching Alabama make a BCS bowl in 1999 was one of the most exciting moments of my pre-adolescent life. I didn’t care that we had no shot at a national title. We were SEC champs and were going to play a big time opponent (Michigan) in the Orange Bowl.

I agree with this. But I still overall prefer the playoffs to having no playoffs at all.

I always thought it was funny that fans said that bowl games didn’t mean anything for years, then started to get upset with players when they opted out.

What’s the point if they don’t mean anything?

It was better before they added the 5th BCS game. After that, the orange bowl always ended up having a poo matchup

Agreed, they were a lot of fun then we would watch the NY6 bowls.

Leonard Fournette started this trend of sitting out bowl games.

Fournette had a high-ankle sprain that nagged him the entire season long (got it from a pre-season scrimmage). He missed 5 full games that season, including the last nine quarters of his college career.

This seems about right. I also thought 2007 and 2008 were fricking awesome. 2007 for the sheer craziness, and 2008 for the amount of great teams that year.

It’s crazy how quickly the sport has shifted since the mid 2000s. Those BCS bowls during that time were awesome. Rarely any opt outs and the teams were still trying their hardest to win.

It’s amazing how the relentless pursuit of more money has completely ruined CFB

Same thing for the NFL. They’re so scared of litigation that the entire league looks way different than it did 10-15 years ago

I predict that after a couple years of the 12 team playoff they will start to gut a lot of the bowl games. They are really just time slot fillers during December weekdays.

The TV networks run the sport now and the people in charge are so out of touch with what makes the sport great it’s disgusting.

I’m still going to watch LSU and be passionate about them but I dread what CFB will look like in 10 years.

Kevin Garnett ruined college basketball.

Yes he never even played college ball so how could he ruin it?

What was ruined was the perception of the need of bowl games, of college sports in general. It used to be that you needed to have a good bowl game, that you needed to be good in college to get on the pros’ radar. Fast forward to now… we talk about guys in high school who should be #1 picks now

the bowl system was better when they cut deals with teams behind closed doors
the matchups were much better

Those BCS bowls were awesome and New Years Day always felt like the best day of college football. I really miss watching some of those games and the energy that was there.

All of it down the drain.
