Watching this Cubs Sox game, it is very slow and like watching paint dry.
I caught some of it last night and I just don't feel it. Perhaps the first time since I started watching baseball as a kid I don't really feel like watching baseball this year. Even after a strike shortened 1995 season I was excited to see baseball back.
I dunno, perhaps when the season starts later this week it could change but it just doesn't feel the same.

Hey, baseball ain't for everybody. Especially in this day, younger folks just don't seem to have the patience or attention span.
I love it but only when it's my team, not gonna watch random games like I might with football or hoops, but I love watching the Cubs. It's much better live but doesn't look like that's going to happen this year, but I will watch as many Cubs games as I can and I'm glad to have it back.

I’ll be all over the baseball. No fans isn’t to big a deal in baseball. Of course the playoff atmosphere won’t be the same it’s possible they may be at the point of having fans by that time..
I worry the NBA will lose a lot of excitement with no fans.. the game is more intimate and the fans have always been a visual part of the game. Hope I’m wrong
I’ve been watching a little soccer just to pass the time and it’s unbearable without fans in the stands. They have a normal broadcast and an enhanced broadcast. Enhanced is where NBC artificially adds in all the crowd effects. Booing, cheering, normal stadium buzz effects. Its crazy the difference it makes. But seeing all these players react and celebrate with no one watching them is bizarre.
The big money in sports as we know is TV. And everything is getting geared more and more to tv. But we’ve never quite had major events without actual people there. It’s clear that if no one is actually AT the game. It kind of kills the buzz for people watching at home too. At least for faster paced sports like the Big 4 plus soccer. We’ll see how exciting playoff hockey is watching on tv with no fans in the stands in a few weeks.

You had Buster Olney saying there was only a 5% chance they would even start and Trout bitching and whining...my thoughts were the players didn't really want to play. Turns out they were really just interviewing those who were whining and the majority really did want to play.
Now they are trying to turn the Blue Jay thing in to a moratorium on how Canada is right and how much better they've handled this all and it should be a lesson...blah, blah, blah....but it's too late, baseball is starting and frankly showing it can be done safely, and it's killing them
Some of these 5'4 nerdy baseball reporters were trying to kill it before it started. Nothing but doom and gloom, "Why are we trying this in a pandemic", "it's unsafe", "blah, blah, blah". I mean I figured they'd want to cover the sport they are paid to cover and supposedly love. You're right also about the 15 or so players who didn't want to play. All you heard were quotes from them, nothing from the 99.9% of players who are/were raring to go. Typical MSM bullshite. Them along with our, MLB hater/negative Nancy, WestCoastAg shouldn't watch a damn inning.

Jeff Passan at the top of the list. He always looks like he is about to cry and the first two things I ever saw him report on was the Astros and then the virus.

My excitement for baseball has really been subdued because of Manford and the covid crap. I never thought we'd actually get baseball because of the labor issues and with players complaining and the major issues with testing the first week. I just knew we wouldnt be seeing baseball so I didnt get excited.
Now? Im getting there. It really does seem like we are playing. The testing seems to have gotten better after that first week, and like you said, most guys actually want to play and are happy to be out there.
Broadcasts are really going to have to get creative this year. I liked what ESPN tried last night with Boog and Chipper. Both are great friends and do a show together on instagram every week or so since the pandemic started. Their banter was great, and you could tell they were having fun. That really helped my enjoyment last night. Plus, Chipper can talk about the game and be excited about it and not be the old guard shitting on every aspect thats different about the game now.

After watching the restart, it has made me realize how much filler shots of fans were used in normal telecasts. Playoff baseball is about half players half fan reaction shots.

Baseball has the easiest route, and they should have started games July 1. Meanwhile, we have a team that still doesn't know where they will play home games.
I hope it works out for MLB, they need some good news.

MLB is fixing to get a huge boost with all the people jumping ship on the nba and nfl

I love baseball, but if they want to sustain any type of boost, they have got to figure out a way to speed up games.

Yeah, I think the environment you work in and those you work with influence these guys and they all end up spouting the same BS and tailoring their stories to fit the narrative...at least IMHO. Olney was saying there was false hustle and a lot of players saying "what are we doing here" when turns out only a few were saying that and most were fired up about playing.
They are still trying to stop it doubling down on the Canada stuff but it's too late...the seasons gonna start and so far MLB has shown you can do this safely, and honestly these guys are probably safer playing in this protocol than if left to their own devices. And it's eating them up that they can't stop it so they are lashing out trying whatever they can do derail it.

To expound on my frustration on this, I think a question to ask and I have not really heard anyone ask it...are these athletes safer in these protocols and structured environments than they would be otherwise, or if left to their own devices?
I think it sounds great to pontificate on player safety and these reporters can pat themselves on the back and sound like they really care and anyone who differs with them does not. But do they really care themselves or do they just want to sound like they care, without really looking into what is happening?
I think we are beginning to see with the sports that have come back that these athletes are probably safer in these protocols established than they would be if they had no structure and were at home trying to decide on their own what to do, what girl to go bang, what party to go to, etc.
I think data over time will show these athletes are actually safer in these environments where there is constant medical supervision, protocol, testing etc.

Who would have thought that a league which was dead in the water less than a month ago could potentially become America’s number 1 sport again?

Here are two updates just from this morning about the Marlins outbreak. These guys must major in Drama as well as Journalism. Why the need to report their opinion with "news"?
Needless to say, this is all very problematic and we might not know the full extent of the fallout for a few days.
Source: Jon Heyman on Twitter
There are countless reasons for the Nationals to be concerned, but manager Davey Martinez -- who had a heart procedure -- said on Monday that he was "scared" about the outbreak. This whole situation needs to be a wake-up call for everyone.
