The fact that UCF didnt get a chance is what shows this system is broken. Everytime they've altered the way it works they use the argument that this will give those schools a shot, but it never does.

If it was the same four with the formula I think people would be more ok with it because they can’t really bitch about bias or the eyeball test. But they would surely find something to bitch about.

1.) The committee got it right this year

2.) 4 teams is not enough

The level of subjectivity at this level of sport is flat out absurd.

8 teams. P5 champs automatically play for it all. The committee should exist to evaluate the 3 at-large.

Wisconsin should have been in

Wisconsin had an undeniably better resume at the time that Bama's regular season had completed.

While somewhat true, it's also true that no one ever intended that you should be able to get to the playoffs playing only teams ranked outside the top 30(with one exception)

I agree.

In the current crap system, they made the best crap sandwich possible.

You would solve it just like you did in the bcs days and highest ranked two teams go. It’s better than shoehorning a second weaker division champ into a title game. Who cares if they played the week before. Auburn had played uga only a few weeks before under the current system.

With the amount of teams and conferences someone is always getting left out. Id rather play more conference games and have better teams across the board playing in these title games if you’re going to keep them.

Still pass.

Unless you have some ideas for standardization...

Auburn manhandled both of them

It just sucks for Auburn they had to play UGA twice, and played Clemson out of conference instead of a shittier team....

In the words of the defenders of Bama's shitty schedule, you play who is on the schedule. I don't disagree with that idea, but the fact is they never let down and won every game. Give them a shot at the big boys. Don't give an undeserving team a second shot at glory.

Less teams. Not More.

ETA: Clemson lost to fricking Syracuse and Bama didn't win it's own division.

I can make the argument the Rose Bowl was the Championship game and UGA is National Champs. Don't need to see Bama/UGA

Yup.

Gotta have more teams. 4 is not enough, not when there are 5 power conferences. Even in optimal years it's a silly game of round robin.

At least 6. Preferably 8. Settle this shite on the field.

The fundamental problem is that when it's left to a committee, there will always be debate and argument over who got snubbed, who should have been in instead, etc.

It happens in March Madness every year and that's a 68-team field. The difference there is that the teams complaining about being snubbed are almost certainly just fodder for the TV schedule instead of a team with a real chance at winning the playoff.

When it was just two teams there was bitching about teams getting in or getting left out. With four teams there is still bitching about teams getting in or getting left out. If it goes to 8, or 16, there will still be the same thing.

The more the whole thing is diluted then the more room for error there is in the regular season, but it certainly doesn't render the regular season meaningless either. Teams will still be fighting for the last spots, and seeding will become more and more important the deeper the field becomes.

Standardization is required.

1. All regular season games shall be played on Saturdays.

2. All teams shall play 3 P5 OOC opponents, 1 non-P5 opponent and (if your sissy arse desires one) an FCS opponent (or another non P5 opponent from the top level).

3. After the 6th week of the season, all teams shall have a BYE. Assholes who want to schedule weddings in the fall, take note.

There you go, scheduling parity.

Exactly. No matter how many teams are added, somebody will be “left out”. 4 is plenty. A “Final 4” feeling is cool and is plenty.

Wanna fix it? Do away with conference championships. Make that week a “play in” week. Answer all of these questions. BAMA plays Ohio State or USC plays Penn State to get to the 4 game tourney. That’s my answer, but it’s pissing in the wind and STILL “leaves someone out”.

Yup. I've been saying for years we need to do away with so many of these goddamn cupcake games anyway.

How do you know that the committee got it right? Because Alabama won? If they chose UCF or Wisconsin instead, who’s to say that those teams wouldn’t have won by a wider margin?

Remember that this is the same committee that ranked Alabama as the fourth best team in the nation.

The playoff system has room for improvement, especially the subjective human aspect.
