Tell that to Bears’ opponents when they go from playing into 35 MPH winds to playing down wind.

I don't have facts to prove it off hand, but I'd bet a lot of money that for the 8 home games the Bears have, that they would prefer to make possession choices more often than what side of the field they play on

I have a better idea. Play 60 straight minutes, but every 15 minutes take a breather. Halfway through take some time to make adjustments.

dumb..i think the biggest reason for quarters is to change sides of field in case of weather where each side has no advantage for the whole game. They do this in most sports like soccer and volleyball and tennis. Think of a strong wind coming in from the east and you are driving west.

If there was a 2 minute MMA fight at the end of the 1st and 3rd between randomly selected players I think ratings for all games would skyrocket.

Maybe get half the NASCAR drivers to turn and drive the other way in a big game of chicken

I don't know about changing possession every quarter, but I do think the four quarters is a bit antedated for today's football. I just wind/weather is a factor, but you can flip directions at halftime like soccer.
I would imagine, like everything else, it is kept so that networks can have more commercial time. It is hard to appreciate how much the game is stopped for a commercial break unless you are at a game, particularly a professional game.
That said, I would not be opposed to the NFL adapting a two half system instead of a 4 quarter system and maybe give teams an extra TO. IDK.
On another note, has anyone else noticed how much the pass interference replay idea has been an absolute joke? It seems like the refs got clear instructions to not change 99% of the calls unless another "No Call" situation happens. I mean I have seen some pretty obvious interference calls get reviewed and I haven't seen a one changed to call a defensive pass interference. Maybe I missed some, but I have seen many that should have been called on the field and then easily called after a review that wasn't. The NFL really needs to adapt the college replay system (which isn't perfect, but better than what we have currently.

What a dumbass thing to even think about. If my team was on its own 30 or 40 it would make sense to run clock down to 9 or 10 seconds then punt regardless of down. Just down the guy or punt it out of bounds and let other team have time to run a single a play. Most likely they punt it back to make sure they get the change of possession at end of quarter.
How idiotic.
How idiotic.

Only 3 punts allowed per game.

This is the dumbest idea I have ever heard. The service academies would excel in this format.

I think if you fair catch a punt at the end of a quarter, you should get a free kick.

What do you call this new game you've come up with?
Cause it sure ain't football. Sorry, but bad idea.

All the coaches should take 3 shots after each quarter. The manliest ones can keep effectively coaching their teams. Plus after game interviews with the winning coach would be must see tv.
