You would think there would be SOME major stat to hint at that greatness

Went to 3 Super Bowls with a so so supporting cast, then got a good RB and immediately won back to back titles even on the back end of his career. Mike Shannahan never even sniffed anything close to the same success for the rest of his career once Elway retired. Elway was the ultimate prototype QB, even moreso than Marino bc he could take literally whatever the defense gave him and make something out of it, including taking it and running.

Dude that is "muh stats" compared to his own era

Montana, Brees, Brady, Johnny U, Rodgers, Manning, young, Marino led their eras in "muh stats", which is why they actually deserve to be at the top of the list

that Aaron Rodgers isn't even my top 25 should tell you how much i care about this

i know y'all want to use objective measures to rank these guys but that flies in the face of the nature of the position.

Yea. I watched Elway. He wasn’t better than his peers with the eyeball test either.

so you think Marino goes to 5 Super Bowls if he had been drafted by Denver?

If you want to talk about Montana though, his accomplishments are comparable to Brady's

Not even close.

Super Bowl wins
BRADY - 5
MONTANA - 4

W/L record
BRADY - 199-57-0
MONTANA - 117-47-0

Passing yards
BRADY - 67,418
MONTANA - 40,551

TD Passes
BRADY - 500 (5.6%)
MONTANA - 273 (5.1%)

Interceptions
BRADY - 166 (1.8%)
MONTANA - 139 (2.6%)

Game Winning Drives
BRADY - 42
MONTANA - 28

And Montana had the luxury of a 4X Pro Bowl RB (Roger Craig) and the greatest WR in NFL history.

Um, yes he was. There is no disputing that. May not have the greatest stats but he was great.

No.He wasn’t. Marino, Young, Montana, Favre, Manning etc were CLEARLY better than Elway.

Like I said earlier, opinions are like arseholes. Clearly?? Maybe Montana and Marino were, it's all subjective.

I really don’t get the fascination with Elway. The dude was a dunce with the football compared to his greater peers...and the stats reflected it.

It was clear then. It is clear now.

Yet people have made him mythological

I told you why took 3 very so so teams to the Super Bowl, once he got a great RB the Broncos immediately won back to back titles and his supposed offensive guru HC never sniffed the same success for the rest of his career.

So if not Elway who gets the credit for the Broncos making 5 Super Bowls in that era? Dan Reeves?

Did you actually watch him play? Marino was great, one SB appearance. Elway had 5, in 2 different decades. Take Brady off the Patriots, how many rings does he have? Montana from the 49ers? Sometimes it isn't all about stats, sometimes. I also think Jim Kelly is lower than he should be on this person's list. Who cares, it's all subjective.

Roger Staubach won FOUR passing titles in the 70s...it was a different game and not all about stats from the QBs kids.

Terrell Davis won 3 AFC rushing titles and 2 super bowls in 3 years. Is he a top 4 all time back?

Its really not, and you can add steve young to that list

Steve young

221.1 yards/game-----5.6 td%---2.6 int%----64.3 comp %----96.8 rating

John Elway

234.6 yards/game-----4.1td%----3.1int%-----56.9 comp %----79.9 rating

If your eyes told you Elway was better, your eyes are fricked up

Yes. Since you mentioned him, I’d put Elway on Jim Kelly’s level.
