Dale Jr just won the most entertaining Daytona 500 in recent memory, and it was in primetime. NASCAR has got to be counting their blessings.
Jr deserved it, I'm happy for him.

Way too early to be at the airport this morning.

Great race after the red flag. Great for the sport, NASCAR needed a dale jr. win.

I agree 100%

Drafting was still important but the trains and 2 car "teams" were not as important.

3 wide racing 6-8 rows deep and lots of passing.

I hope this is a sign of what this season will be like.

how do they determine who gets 7th, 8th, 9th and so on?

is it based on where you are at when Dale crosses the finish line or is it the order you cross the finish line?

usually, but since there was a caution the go back to the scoring loop immediately prior to when the caution came out

Since the caution came out it goes to the last scoring loop.

Under a normal checkered finish it goes by when you cross the line.

It still blows my mind how many people thought the replay of 2013 race during the rain delay was this years race. The tweets during the replay were hilarious. Fox News actually tweeted that Johnson won the race yesterday. Makes you really trust mainstream media.

No... the 2012 Daytona Monday night primetime was waaaay more eventful even without Montoya hitting the jet dryer truck.

Sunday's race was broken up because of the rain and no one really had a chance to improve their car as they were more worried about position because more rain was on the way.

But it was a fun race all in all. Jr. deserved the win with the dominant car.

It definitely wasn't the most entertaining or memorable race in recent memory but it was a good race.

Jr certainly got a good win and it could very well catapult him into having a really good year. That would be great for NASCAR

That was entertaining, though. If I remember correctly, Montoya was on the bottom of the track, and it was just like he turned up the track and aimed straight for the jet dryer.

It is based on the order they cross the finish line. Or if a caution comes out on the last lap, NASCAR freezes the field and determines position by the last active scoring loop passed by the cars on the track before the caution waves.

The cars have transponders in them that relay their positions. However NASCAR still goes back to the replay just to confirm the transponder data.

It was wet, his rear-end came out from behind him while he was towards the bottom of the track and he spun out and hit the dryer.

Fireballs, burnt track, and hilarity ensued (since no one was hurt).

Yea something broke in the back end, the same thing happened to his teammate Jamie McMurray in that same race.
