re: The CW lands rights to ACC college football & basketball games through 2026-2027

These are the small number of games that are currently broadcasted on Bally Sports, which a large number of people do not have on their cable or streaming plan. CW is free and everywhere. Otherwise, most ACC games will be on ESPN, ABC or ACC network.

Right, it’s only those operating in bad faith who are acting as if Duke-UNC basketball or Clemson-FSU football are going to be on the CW.

The ACC wont exist in 5 years when Clemson and FSU jump to the SEC

NC State and Virginia would be better to give the SEC two states they don’t currently have

I'm all for it if it can support the ACC and keep college sports from dumbing down into two super conferences.

So from what I understand is that Raycom is basically just giving the CW the broadcast and that the ACC is really not getting much if any in finances. So it is not really anything than just switching distributors.
Am I reading it wrong?

No. That is all that it is. Just the fact that CW is the channel is allowing people to poke fun at it.

Spoiler alert: it won’t

Correct. They aren't going to get more money right now from this though I think the greater exposure is invaluable. Perhaps this leads to CW buying those rights once they come back up.

I remember the years UNC vs Duke games were blacked out on ESPN in certain markets and you had to watch on what ever channel was Raycom

Smart move by the ACC and CW. Any game on an over the air network vs a 3rd tier cable channel is a win for the ACC. And for the CW it is a cheap way to expand how viewers perceive the network. FOX used to be a joke of a channel as well.
People laughed at the Pac potentially negotiating with the CW but it would be better than some streaming service like Apple that 95% of America doesn’t have. I’d occasionally watch a late night or competitive Pac 12 game on CW but I’d never pay for a streaming service just to get Pac 12 games.

Why would you want NCSU over UNC?

When does Univision get in on the college sports packaging?
