Lots of rumors swirling that they’ve reacquired the rights to the Kingfish name and the new team will be named the Baton Rouge Kingfish.

FB fan group have hinted at a possible announcement tomorrow

They’ll still be in the same clown car of a league though.

GO FISH GO

This is good news, but they need to fix the arena to have traditional hockey seating. The bullshite they had where you couldn’t be close to the rink and the glass was crap. I was a season ticket holder for the Kingfish and the zydeco and they could have a better experience by just opening up the lower level and packing it in if the seats go all the way to the glass.

This means they will eventually fail again.

Even if they could move a step up to the SPHL, that would be a big improvement.

The crowds were actually quite respectable, especially considering how horrible the team was.

I hope that is the end goal. With the FPHL expanding west and north, travel is going to become a serious issue. Hopefully they can build some momentum and move up like Athens and Pee Dee did this year

The expansion to California is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. No way those teams don't fold in a year or two.

The press conference is available on WBRZ.com.

Ownership group consists of a local guy plus the owners of the back to back to back league champion Binghamton Black Bears. This is starting to look promising.

No official team name announced. I'm assuming they're still jumping through legal hoops to obtain the Kingfish name.

How was the Athens, GA team able to move from the FPHL to SPHL so quickly? Did they keep the same ownership when they did that?

Hopefully someone asks them about their new lease with the River Center and their ability to be a tenant long term. I thought the plan for the River Center was to renovate it geared toward hosting conventions.

I didn't think they would be able to configure it for hockey much longer.

They have a brand new arena which made them an attractive option. Plus their first roster was big time minor league talent and they ran over most of the league. It looked like a mismatch between team and league from the getgo. They were always looking to move to the SP or ECHL

But this league is a couple notches below what the Kingfisher were in, correct?

Its not out of the realm of possibility to think there will be a major shift in A hockey to move into the SPHL in a couple of years.

All that's left that are significant enough of a market to add to the SPHL are Winston Salem, NC, Columbus, GA and Baton Rouge. It would make a lot of sense for them based on what the SPHL already has in place

Pensacola
Mobile
Athens
Pee Dee
Knoxville
Macon
Fayetteville
Huntsville
Birmingham
Roanoke
Carolina
Columbus
Baton Rouge

Plus Evansville, Peoria and Quad City. That's 16 teams.

That's as close as you could get to getting the old ECHL back.

That would make the FPHL a largely Northeast/Midwest league again, plus Cali freakin fornia. if all the southern teams migrate to the SP.
