Re: Pee Dee, I wouldn't put much stock into that. There's some drama there ongoing that's been alluded to by a few posters on their fan pages. If what's been posted there is true, then they're not going to be accepted into the SP and the Fed made it clear they're not going to accept them back in.
Re: Kingfish name, someone posted on the BR fan group page that there is a pending trademark for the team out there. With the protections even a pending trademark has, they probably have to go through that person to get it.
Re: California. I'd recommend listening to some (if not all for more insight) of Scott Brand's recent interview. I thought it was a crazy move until hearing what the bigger plan is for next year. They knew they'd have to lick some wounds this year, but there's a chance of a West, a Central and an East (and potentially a South maybe?) division type of situation. He made it clear, even the MN team was not going to be some sort of one off with no one around them.
I also think taking some power away from Kirnan with this new committee (and eventually person) is an attempt to stabilize things in the Fed a bit and maybe be taken seriously for once.

They need to call Ronnie Rantz and get him on board and they might be able to sustain it
If he can sell the Rougarou to the public as the second coming of the Savannah bananas he could run the hockey team

Wish they’d move up. The FPHL is some really bad hockey.

Honestly, I’m not gonna get out of bed for anything less than the ECHL

Also wish they could do something about taking 2 months off from home games at the River Center from Dec-Feb

The Brass upset my IceGators in round 1 that year

Wasn’t that bad this past season. Was 5 weekends off.

With the NHL affiliations these days, not happening in BR sans the LSU arena being built and them wanting to have the ice plant for the rink (plus boards and glass, obviously).
Only chance is perfect timing with a Houston NHL expansion.

My kids and I were walking around the River center this past December - just hanging out. We noticed there was a hockey game so we randomly decided to go check out the Zydeco.
Behind the busted speaker system, terrible announcing and atrocious metal music that was 10 notches too loud it was a terrible product.

You used to have to know someone with tickets to even get in the Cajun Dome back then. It’s a shame how quickly it died off.

Man, looking at those old ECHL players and there’s no comparison to that crap the Zydeco tried to pass off as hockey. They had actual athletes playing in the ECHL.

Little Rock.
Simmons Bank Arena basically goes unused besides an occasional concert or convention

Different parts of the journey.
ECHL guys were seasoned pros within grasp of an NHL spot.
FPHL guys are just starting out on their professional journey. Lots of FPHL guys have gotten ECHL callups.

It’s weird that Pensacola is the only market to survive (aside from one year) while all of the others folded. Hell, they drew over 6k/game this year playing in the same old building. I’ll be interested to see how long Athens keeps a team; Tallahassee and Baton Rouge couldn’t make it work as the local university dominates the sports scene and those markets, I assume, are larger than Athens. Knoxville seems to make it work, but I believe they’re larger than BR and Tally.

Fairly certain the Ice Pilots ceased operations or moved elsewhere.
Their name now is the Ice Flyers...probably due to a kingfish like situation where they couldn't get the rights to the old name for the new team and had to choose something slightly different.

Yes, I was referring to hockey in Pensacola. Ice Pilots suspended operations in summer of 2008 and they secured an SPHL franchise to begin in 2009, so aside from 2008-9, they’ve had hockey there since 1996.

They've got a great arena and no real competition with other sports.
