Astros signed wade Miley to 1 year 4.5 mil. That’s a pretty good deal that I wouldn’t mind the Braves making. There are still lots of decent players out there available at a decent price that, while not franchise altering, would improve the team. The Braves need to jump on some of these players before someone else does, granted I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes right now.

Why would you want Wade Miley?
Is he going to be that much better than one of the guys that he would be pushing out?
Would you rather have him in the rotation over Touki or Soroka?
Folty, Gausman, Newcomb, and Teheran are the top four of the rotation unless there is a trade, so if we bring in a mildly descent arm, it doesnt make sense.
It only makes sense to bring in a starter if its a legitimate top of the rotation guy like Kluber.

Disappointing offseason
We’ll be lucky to get out of the East

For 4.5 million I’d take Wade Miley. Low risk, high reward, and it adds depth. Sure I’d rather Touki or Soroka but, IMO, you almost have to count on somebody amongst our rotation options getting injured.
But moreso, the signing reminds me that there are still a lot of players out there that can be had at a decent price that can, at the very least, incrementally improve the team.

OK when someone gets injured, here are the arms that the Braves have.....Folty, Gausman, Newcomb, Teheran, Soroka, Toussaint, Fried, Wilson, Wright then maybe Allard, Wiegel, and Anderson.
Bringing in a arm that isnt a clear upgrade makes absolutely no sense, and the Braves are a mid spending team. 4.5 million is a lot for them, so there is no chance they should give it to an average pitcher that doesnt move the needle at all. How many more games will the Braves win if Miley starts 10 games than they would if everyone else named above start them instead?

Which players that can he had for cheap will help this team?
C-? No
1B-? No
2B-? No
3B-? No
LF-? No
CF-? No
RF-? NO
Bench-? Camargo, Culberson, Flocan, Duvall? OK maybe Duvall
SP-? NO
RP-? NO
So where exactly is a cheap option going to help this team?
This Braves team isnt like 98% of other teams. It got good too early. There are still so many prospects that are ready to try and contribute at multiple positions, and younger guys at other positions, that we dont need marginal upgrades to help the team. This isnt the Reds where adding Tanner Roark could majorly help.
Now I will call myself an a-hole if the team offloads Teheran to someone, trades Anderson/Riley/Pitcher for Realmuto, and trade three other prospects for Kluber.....Then we might need a little depth like Miley or Gio Gonzalez, but until all that happens, we dont need these players.

Just got off the phone with my uncle, who works in the Braves FO, he told me to calm down and not Harp on the little things...take that FWIW

Nice! I might flip Harper and Freeman though.
But either way, it's a mean lineup!

BB&T is buying SunTrust, Chance we have to rename the park if SunTrust is no longer the name

Phillies get Realmuto while we continue to hoard pitching prospects hoping some of them pan out.
Ian Anderson better end up being really fricking good.

We're only gambling that a bunch of 19-21 year olds pan out, and that Kakes, Dansby, Flowers and Albies have career years. Oh and that JD returns to form. And that there's no sophomore slump for Acuna. And that our "ace", known for his emotional stability, maintains last season's form.
I mean, so long as we avoid any slip ups in those areas we should still be good in the division. No need to force any deals.

I'd take the under on our win total this year. I think we're looking at something like 77-85 for the season while the Phils and Nats both are in the 90-93 win range.

The Mets are going to be good as well. I think it could be a four-team race. All 4 teams could finish somewhere between 85 and 95 wins.

Don't forget our catchers. 33 & 34 years old. That is going to have to be addressed and quickly. Bullpen was the noticeable sore spot last year and it hasn't been addressed either.

Hard to think the Braves couldn't beat the Phils offer...

In fairness I'm not sure I fully wanted AA to beat the offer for 2 years of JT. But we held out on everything else, and I think a lot of us assumed JT was going to be the move. Now it increasingly looks like we're settling for Donaldson (which I like that move a lot FWIW) and a catcher who was brought in for goodwill and jersey sales.
