What you see with Freeman right now is what you are going to get.

Straight up sure we most likely would. But the Braves have a pretty tight budget, you have to consider costs and how long we have players under control for cheap. It's not like we can just sling away all our young under control players and stay competitive.

Considered in a vacuum it's one thing, but considering the Braves needs it's quite another.

I'd personally be willing to move Freeman for Upton as long as we kept Gattis, as I think Gattis could hit enough to make whatever defense he put up at 1B bearable.

Kinda pointless to speculate on though, as the Dbacks have zero need for a 1B.

yea he's kind of a gap hitter. may approach 30 HR on occasion but will prob be around 20-25 more than likely.

Yeah, he can settle in as a .850-.875ish OPS guy as he hits his middle 20s, but top 5 guy not so much.

It is not really worth discussing, because the trade makes no sense really for either side.

Are we talking top 5 in the NL or MLB?

Braves take on the better player who AZ is looking to dump.

AZ gets another good young player in return with MLB experience

yea, makes no sense.

He's neither so it doesn't really matter

The Braves are not trading any big leaguers in this deal. That seems to be the attraction for Wren, fill the only hole left on the roster without creating any other holes.

Trading Freeman would create a bigger hole at 1B than what we currently have in LF given what's behind him in the organization.

I'd argue top 5 in the NL.

I just think in terms of his OBP and his glove, he is pretty damn good. Obviously, I went overboard saying top 5.

You could argue he's top 5 in NL. Some would say he's 3rd best in his own division though.

If the Upton trade happens, one would say this might be the most athletic outfield in MLB

I think he's put up respectable numbers for someone who's only played 2 years in the majors. And he had eye problems last year that kept him out a lot but that has been fixed. if you compared stats from their first 2 years, I bet Freeman's numbers are better than the vast majority of those guys.
