I think he can round into a low level 3 or high level 4 guy for is this year if we get Schwelly back and go with a top 3 of Sale Elder and Schwelly
But yeah long term like I said a similar route to Elder who has basically overhauled his entire pitching philosophy is likely in the cards as needed

At this point, the Braves can afford a season long process. If the Braves play .500 the rest of the way, they’re likely in the playoffs. We’ll see if Hefner has any magic for Strider.

I don’t think the Braves can count on Schwelly to give them much this season. Trading for a 2 or 3 seems like the way to go.

But part that would have to be Strider showing that he can at least hang in games while he's figuring this out.
Like I said before, it becomes a problem if he's at 70 pitches thru 4 innings and we're having to use the pen to cover half a game.

Has to be a 2 or even a 1B. considering Sale's age/injury history.
God love him for the strides (no pun intended based on what we've talked about), but I'm still not sure how far you can get in the postseason if Elder is your #2.

Our farm is pretty depleted.
How would you make something like this happen? We have a few arms like owen murphy and a few others but until this next draft and international pool where we should really inject the farm we dont have much to send prospect wise
I mean he has been like a sub 2 era for like 5 months now. I dont think thats his eventual resting point but i do think what we see is real unlike his first all star run which was based highly on luck, he is a totally different pitcher now. I would like him at 3 and Schwelly at 2. Schelly will be back sometime in August most likely so it all depends on what he is like.
Waldrep also comes back in mid to late June. Maybe if he does well we could work him into a trade

I still have hope for AJSS as well. He has a great fastball and was on a great run of starts before his injury.
Posted on 5/8/26 at 10:37 am to Broski
He has been throwing just starting again recently. Im not sure that we will be seeing him at the MLB level this year sadly but I agree, he still has immense upside assuming the velo is there
I would 100% trade waldrep before him. I know he did well in the second half last year but I just dont think he profiles to be anything more than a 4-5 eventually

Need to trade Strider while he still has value
Posted on 5/8/26 at 10:39 am to Finkle is Einhorn
Strider has 0 value now trading him would be a horrible idea imo.
If they did want to do that they have plenty of time and can hope he works himself back into being a consistent maybe 3.50-3.75 era guy

Wait for the Rangers to eventually fall out of the race and make them an offer for deGrom. He has one year left on his deal after this (at $37M), he has supposedly always wanted to play here, and I don't think the Rangers would be too upset to get off of that contract.
I'd offer Waldrep, Owen Murphy, and Profar for him. I don't buy Waldrep as a long term top of rotation guy because I think walks will be an issue, so I'm looking to move him while his value is still high. I'm adding Murphy to entice them to take Profar's contract off our hands. Maybe throw in a low minors lottery ticket type to sweeten the pot.
This is the kind of ceiling raising, all in move I would like to see. It's risky because of his health history, but it's time to take a risk to try and win another World Series. deGrom is still really, really good, and he did make 30 starts last season.

Im all in with you brother and have been since last season when we took heat for our take on this
I agree with your reasoning though and would give a thumbs up to the package. Only issue I see is I just dont see anyone taking a commanding lead in that division unless its Seattle.

I’ve seen Robbie Ray of the Giants mentioned.

If the Braves still look this good in July and August, I really hope AA would aim higher than that.

IMO Waldrep should’ve been traded after last season. As soon as he is good again he should be traded.
I will get hate for this but he doesn’t have the command to stick as a top 3 SP in the MLB long term.

Waldrep gives you a live arm at a great price. That value allows you to spend money elsewhere.

His splitter is elite. I think he could actually be a very good high leverage bullpen guy perhaps for us if we wanted to get him in their for cheap.
As far as a SP it depends if you believe the second half of last season is real or not for him regarding his walk rate going forward it was 3.5/9 innings which is the second best he’s done at any level of our entire farm system but only a sample of 54 innings. Hes averaged season much more like 5 walks per 9

quote:If he or R.Lopez don't come back to full strength, we're setting ourselves up for failure in a playoff run if we don't get another starter imo. That's not even considering potential injuries with the current starting group who have been great. I wish Caminiti was another year older/experienced.
I don’t think the Braves can count on Schwelly to give them much this season. Trading for a 2 or 3 seems like the way to go.
Edit: Even with the injuries we have with current starting group/young guys, the Braves have done a fantastic job at getting/developing enough depth for us to get through this string of injuries.
