Bryson’s step brothers shirt last night with him and Brooks was hilarious.

What I find so interesting, is how well Sergio, Rahm, and especially Hovland speak English.
English is basically a second language in Scandinavia i think. Most of them speak it.
Sergios english sucked back in the 90s but now he speaks better than me. And curses in English, thats how you know you are fluent. Apparently English is the best language for cursing.

Our guys are kind of boring, especially Brooks. Maybe reserved is a better word, maybe just how interviews are handled between here and across the seas. Just less candid.
I think reserved is right. Outside of Jordan, Scottie, and Patrick, who are all generally straitlaced, the rest of the guys let loose quite a bit when the camera's off -- even Brooks. Still Jordan, Patrick, and Scottie can have a good time, which is different from the teams with guys like Kuch, Webb, and Jimmy Walker. Thank god Webb didn't make this team.
The good thing to see is the chemistry. It's been a knock for 15+ years that the US has no chemistry because they mostly keep to themselves, while the Euros fly back and forth together for Euro/PGA tour events, eat/drink together, and take the younger guys under their wings. While the US isn't doing the same, most of these guys have been playing golf together and in some regards hanging out together since they were kids and you can tell. They really can have a dominating run for the next 6-10 years.
ETA - Partying with guys like Lowry, Fleetwood, and Poulter seems like it would be a hell of a time.

Most of the Euro team lives in the US for part of the year, some primarily. Sergio in Austin, Rahm went to Arizona State, Hovland went to Oklahoma State.
Rahm and Sergio are both married to Americans and have lived full-time in America since they were teenagers. I would hope they can speak English well.
As for Hovland, English is basically a second language in Norway, and he also played college in the U.S.
In my mind this week bolstered my current thought that the gap between Rahm and the rest of the world is big and getting bigger. Wouldn't be surprised to see him go on a Rory-like run here in the next couple of years.

Much has been said about how this team embraces the Ryder Cup and being part of a team, more like the Europeans have done so long. You can't watch the emotion of McIlroy and Poulter without seeing how much it means to them, I believe that's to be true now of this US team, more than in the past.
Here's where I think you'll see the proof though. With 2022 scheduled to be in Italy, see how many of the Americans build time into their schedules to fly to Italy for practice rounds in the weeks before. There's a good chance that most, if not all, of the Americans, will have never played that course before. If the Ryder Cup really means that much to them, they'll make a trip to play practice rounds a priority and will put it in their schedule.

The RC in Rome will be in 2023 so they are sticking with the 2 year gap. I think poulter was so emotional because he knows that it’s most likely the last time he will tee it up in a Ryder cup, which has become his golf identity considering his underachieving in majors. I think the Rome course is going to demand a different team. It’s listed at 6,300 yards par 72 with a Slope of 140. So it’s going to be target golf and take away any length advantage. Maybe Zach Johnson will be a playing captain if it’s set up the way they expect it will.

I don't think that's correct anymore. They had Fazio come in and redesign it over the last few years and it's well over 7k yds now.
ETA: According to their site it's 6670 meters, which is 7300 yds. LINK

Didn't some of them go to Paris in 18? I recall seemingly JT and Spieth went over. I could see at least 5 of them going to play it before or after the British in 23

Judging from satellite images it looks like an American style course.
Im sure they will grow out the rough as much as they can and narrow the fairways

Isn't there a castle on the grounds?

They played the Italian Open there a couple weeks ago. Definitely a familiar style course for the US team.

quote:Idiot. First of all, you were way off. Second of all, Whistling straits isnt even close to links style
Who picked a European style links course, to host a Ryder Cup on American soil? Stupid decision that will probably end up biting them in their arse.

I don’t think it’s “not even close” to links style, but it’s definitely not a links course.

It’s Pete Dye designed. Other than the greens being tough, it’s not close to links style l, it just looks like it. It’s a soft course

I just meant it looks kind of links-style more than anything. But it’s real soft, and you play the ball so much more through the air than on the ground.
