Ernie Els was the guy that was just strikingly huge on the course.

Not surprising his nickname was The Big Easy.

If you knew anything about the man, you would understand that at first he was an arse and he corrected his behavior and became a different person. So yes, he had his moments just like everyone does but overcame them.

I met him at the '94 US Open at Oakmont as a kid and asked him for an autograph after a practice round while he was standing in a common area by the clubhouse. He was such a prick to me that my father almost went after him. His security guard was close by, heard what he said and did and got him out of there before my father could get to him.

I had my open hat and a pen, I asked him, very quietly, if he sign the hat. I was 12 and pretty shy. His reply was essentially (it's been 30 years) "what kid? You know what, why don't you just frick off" and then he sort of just laughed, grabbed the pen I had and tossed it away. The security guard saw the look on my dads face and saw that he was quickly moving in his direction and got Stewart out of there fast.

Randomly I met Nick Faldo later that day, who was known to be an arse, and he couldn't have been nicer. He chatted with me and my father for at least 15 minutes, signed my open hat, gave my dad swing tips. Was incredibly nice.

I could never understand why people hated Faldo and loved Stewart after that. I honestly hated it when Stewart won the Open in '99. Folks say he turned things around, was a different person. I guess he hadn't turned the corner in '94. Still feel bad for his family and the way he passed, regardless of my interaction with him, he was gone too soon.

100% he was always a prick. Nobody with that hat isn’t. Dying young when you are famous has your demons fade with you

Want proof? Bryson was a huge douche. Now he is likeable

Coincidence? I think not

What course was it, years ago, that they had to water the greens in between groups because they were so fast? Was it Pinehurst, Oakmont or BPB?

The rest of the majors need to get with the times and compete with the masters and the GOAT app
