There are supposedly no QBs in the NFL that are left-handed, not even back-ups.

If true, seems like a big deal, on top of the injury issues.

I think a lot of this is due to all teams making the anchor of the offensive line the left tackle and a right handed QBs blind side. If a team has versatility at the tackle position where the LT can switch to RT and not have a drop off, it should be no problem for Tua as far as being left handed.

Plus, it certainly didn't hurt Steve Young as a lefty.

Steve Young.

It think it's a minuscule data point that might result in 1 out 100 passes being dropped due to WRs adjusting to reverse ballspin. Hell, maybe 0 out of 100, I have no clue.

Its bigger than people care to mention.

Oline has to flip
Ball spins the opposite direction
Comes from the other side of the Qb.

But the main reason i think there arent more is that if you have arm talent and are a lefty, baseball scoops you up.

But for Kellen Moore to be the last left handed QB in the NFL and people not to think it means SOMETHING....i dont know what to tell yall.

Because there are no lefties in the league, I almost feel like it is a huge advantage for Tua.

A lot of teams have come around to not really caring if the LT is the best tackle or not.

Steve Young seems to think there is an actual bias against left handed QBs. He says youth lefties are avoided because coaches don't know how to essentially coach in a mirror, so they're moved to other positions. The lack of lefties makes me think he has a point.

If it were a minuscule data point, there would likely be more left-handers.

I don't think it's a huge deal, but it's not nothing.

WRs need to change jug machine settings to spin the ball accordingly.

Also scrambles will favor left side instead of right side. RB will take handoffs on the opposite side of the QB. Passing will favor the left side of the field instead of the right. Roll outs will go left instead of right

Left handed QBs are also a huge disadvantage bc when you make all these small schematic changes, you then have to have a left handed backup to keep synchronized. And you can’t use a leftie as a holder for FGs because they take the ball on the wrong side

In college you can be Bama and survive by not having all these changes, but in the NFL he’ll either have to do things with the non dominant hand as if he’s right handed, or they’ll have to invert the offense for him

And good luck inverting an offense of guys who have done things the exact same way for 10-20 years of their lives and telling them they have to learn how to do it the opposite way to account for one player’s idiosyncrasy

As a lefty, I can tell you 100% this happens.

Bc it created a massive overpay for left tackles. Teams decided to compensate by chipping RBs to the blind side more often, or shifting extra help to the left side

I think it is in a macro-persepctive of lefty-handed QBs in general but for Tua's individual outlook I don't see it being a huge factor.

Ironically, Tua is actually naturally right-handed. His father made him switch to being a left-hander ala Rafael Nadal.

A lot of DCs shift their pressure to come from the QBs right because they want the QB to have to make the decision to move left because it disrupts their motion.

But then again great DCs know that you have to mix up pressures and bring it from all angles so really doesn’t make a huge difference anymore
