Going by that, doesn't Adam Silver technically work for Sterling? Isn't the commissioner basically an employee of the owners?

Which is why he said he will urge the NBA board of governors to force him to sell the team. He made it pretty obvious he couldn't force him to do that himself

It's useless to argue what the NBA is allowed to do without actually seeing the contract.

But the NBA has a team of lawyers that Silver undoubtably talked to make sure he has the authority to punish Sterling as he did. I'll be surprised if the NBA doesn't have the authority to vote for a forced sale in the current circumstance

ETA: LINK

If this is actually part of the NBA constitution then Sterling seems fricked under 13a

Yeah right. Billionaires don't take kindly to being told to shut up.

Just a guess, but maybe his sugar baby publicly hanging around with black dudes makes him look bad around his fellow Jews. Hence she shouldn't parade around Magic Johnson and Matt Kemp (who plays for Johnson-owned LA Dodgers).

Silver's role is another aspect in this I'm leery of. Admittedly I'm not worried about this situation, just curious, but he's going to be in a position to tell the other owners how to vote. It's already started. And he'll be successful, because with the stigma that would come from voting for a racist, everyone will fall in line.

In sum, I just don't like all the subjectivity involved here. Perhaps the NBA will use this to tighten up restrictions on owner so they won't have to rely on made up penalties and for-show-votes to punish people in the future.

My thoughts exactly. They all know what they can and cannot do.

that has, literally, nothing to do with this, and those cases were litigated/settled

Yea, some people are acting like Silver just made this decision on his own without talking with some of the best lawyers in the country that work for the NBA, and silver himself is one of them

And was NEVER found guilty. No proof was found

Actually the judge ruled the racist evidence inadmissible going back beyond 2 years before the firing, so they tactically dismissed the claims pre-trial.

Plus, everyone in this country is being afraid of branded as a racist. It might be the most powerful stigma in America.

they're making a calculated risk. the PR victory (or stopping the PR loss) is worth more than a possible claim by sterling, prior to settlement. it's risk-loss assessment. they had a dam that needed an immediate plug

they will deal with the fallout in teh offseason or when people forget about the story (just like the other 500 sterling-racism incidents)

As an owner of a house/apt complex, you do have a right to rent out to who you want. There is no process that you HAVE to interview every race before you rent out.

If you rented out apartments, you look for the tenant that will cause the least damage and complain the least. Rare to find, but that's why he rented to koreans more often because they never complained or trashed his place
