Minorities can be just as racist

If the vote would be 29-1, then I would agree that the one owner would be scrutinized (the white guilt media would just love that would they?) but if 17 of them vote no, then absolute jack shite will happen to them. What? Will they make all 17 sell their teams lol?
It's a valid point. I don't think the NBA is going to come down on the naysayers, but there will be a ton of heat to swing it Silver's way. Now, given that these guys are all very wealthy and some of them are savvy, if they really have an issue with it, perhaps a coalition to vote against it will be formed to take the heat off any single nay vote. But I think the most likely result is nearly unanimous support.
If I were the owners, I'd be putting pressure on the NBA to avoid the vote. I don't want to set precedent for my own destruction, nor do I want to be painted into a corner by having to vote no.

a. they have contracts. they must still pay.
b. he was talking about NBA tv money, not the local sponsorships

Sterling obviously is just a slave owner.
He kept the players in a barn with other barn animals (pigs, horses, sheep, etc.) until practice or game time. For every shot they missed they received 5 lashings. Then were not allowed to celebrate any holidays or free time and were only given enough food to survive until the next day.
Every day after practice they went out into the fields and worked the land until past daybreak and then had to go right back into the barn until the next morning to return to the field or practice.
They weren't paid anything for all their efforts and they weren't allowed to look any of the white folks in the eye and whatever command they were given they had to do it and say either 'yessa' or 'yess'am.'.
Oh wait you mean none of the above is true? Cause they weren't fricking slaves.
The guy is a POS but as a black man whose great grandmother was a real slave, I'm far more offended by people who compare him to the fricking KKK who murder people and burn houses down (Jews too not just blacks) or to a slave owner.
He's a douche flat out but this whole thing is so overblown it's ridiculous.
I've worked for racist bosses or people who shared completely different beliefs from me but I damn sure wasn't being paid millions and millions of dollars for it.
Nobody is forcing them to play in the NBA either or to play for the Clippers.
What happened to logic?

even if he loses, an arbitrator may find the NBA exceeded its authority
Bringing up the fact that everyone knew he was a racist before this stupid tape was released would be interesting.

Would have to read the entire constitution and by laws because section A of 13 is very broad.

I haven't seen an actual decision as the case was settled. I had a sexual harassment settlement where the employer maintained the ee's employment. A year later, the ee submitted tapes of personal conversations offsite with a race discrimination EEOC filing. Lost EEOC & Case moved class-action with Quanell X and the new black panthers marching for the cameras.
Sorry for quick note. On phone.

Vindicating the moronic bigots of the "other side" is certainly a negative byproduct of today.

I would bet my life Doc Rivers and crew will be Clippers next year

We really are a culture of thought police. Being offended for the sake of being offended. There is a reason why we are thought of as the most tolerant country in the world. We have a wave of media tolerance that's not common with the rest of the world.
How easily you are offended is proportional to how stupid you are.

People are literally losing their goddamn minds over something a man said in his own privacy and people have no problem with that being violated because they disagree with what he said.
He may be a POS and a racist but I hope Sterling sues and wins and sends people a clear message they can't force him to do something he doesn't want to do with his property. The lack of respect for property rights is disgusting.
You couldn't be more wrong about pretty much everything here.
Its not his personal property in that its something they are going to physically take away from him w/zero compensation.
He holds franchise rights within a league that he willingly signed up for. It's not like he will lost money in any way by a forced sale b/c he invested so little when he bought them. The guy doesn't even own an arena. He just leeches off the Lakers. Too bad so sad that they might force him to sell via the very rules he agreed to abide by.
and holy shite acting like people are stupid if they are offended by him flat out saying he didn't think his side piece should be seen in public with a black person. Get the frick off your high horse on top of bullshite mountain.
besides, forcing him to sell is actually NICE of them. If the NBA wanted to go full nuclear they could simply kick the entire Clippers franchise out of the league, void the contracts, and award an expansion franchise to new owners in LA thus making his team and the almost zero infrastructure he has built for it completely worthless.

you are crazy to think these companies don't have "moral" clauses or any other clauses that gives them the ability to terminate said contract if it negatively affects their branding.

the first major issue will be if sterling could bring an antitrust suit, which will take years to litigate and there is no 100% guaranteed answer at this time. if he wins that, NBA fricked. even if he loses, an arbitrator may find the NBA exceeded its authority
How is he going to sue for antitrust? I mean, he can sue over breach of contract, but what on earth is his antitrust claim? They allowed him to compete for 30 years.
The NBA is not sweating an antitrust suit at all. Forget about the fact that almost every antitrust suit in sports has failed (even wins were losses - the USFL got a whopping $3). I don't doubt Sterling will sue, but antitrust is a bad tact. I doubt it could survive summary judgment. How has he been unfairly prevented from competing?

Practically, no doubt they'd settle here too, given the attention.
