Right, because it was a civil suit.

It was, I believe, the largest housing discrimination settlement in U.S. history.

It only matters what his company thinks (the NBA)

Going by that, doesn't Adam Silver technically work for Sterling? Isn't the commissioner basically an employee of the owners?

Look upthread, dumbass, or go look around on CNNSI.

The NBA constitution itself isn't public but the articles written on the subject refer to the section as specifically dealing with owners who can't pay their bills.

I posted a highlighted exerpt for you upthread.

Bill gates is not 1 of 30 owners. Sterling isn't the owner of the NBA

also adding the fact that he's so old that he had her record all of his convos with her, b/c he couldn't remember them

That should be reason enough to push him out.

Would you really want someone running a team that can't remember his conversations from the previous day?

My point is that the original comparison was off-base because a board member or CEO who says something stupid is typically an employee and not a major shareholder / owner.

In Sterling's case, he's considered to be a 1/30 shareholder of the NBA with hundreds of millions of dollars invested in a business.

The chances of pushing him out on a whim without legal redress are pretty small. And that's assuming you get about 23 other owners to vote him out considering that several have to be nervous about them being the next one in line to be targeted.

I'd be happy to debate this further with you as it's an interesting discussion. Don't want to derail the thread. I will end with respectfully disagreeing based on my own 20 years working in employment law.

I think we're on topic.

Interested in your take. You've seen pro-employee verdicts for management's racial comments made outside the work environment, to non-employees (or similar)? I've certainly never seen anything like that.

Now, considering we both work in this field and presumably you've been involved/around advising businesses, we'd likely both be concerned regarding the attempt to make out a hostile work environment claim, especially in an environment that gets a lot of press attention. That said, I don't think the claim would be ultimately meritorious, using our hypo here, which is what I assumed we were talking about.
