It’s like Santa Claus. You don’t want to hurt the feelings of those who believe it. It is well known that the “moon landing” was fake but it is ingraved in American folklore, as we can see by the mouth breathers here. So, it’s become this conspiracy theory when there is actually solid evidence for it being a hoax.

grandpa ended up being chief engineer of the 3rd stage. i have his retirement book from mcdonnel douglas. the best note from one of his coworkers was something like "they won't even let us blow stuff up and rebuild it anymore. i think it's finally time to retire." it makes me laugh every time i think of it, but if you started in that industry in 1951, it was an incredibly true statement.
