quote:

Former Army Ranger Alejandro Villanueva broke ranks on Sunday. Two of the team’s captains said Wednesday that they didn’t know he’d be doing it.

quote:

”I was surprised by what Al did,” defensive end Cameron Heyward said Wednesday, via Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. “I did not know about Al’s choice for the back of his helmet,” quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said, via Dulac. Both Heyward and Roethlisberger are among the team’s 2020 captains.

quote:

“Obviously, that’s his choice,” Roethlisberger added. “That’s the amazing thing about the country we live in. Unfortunately, it is what it is

quote:

Heyward explained that the team had discussed their approach for the game and chose to honor Rose, who was shot and killed in 2018 by a Pittsburgh police officer. So the significance here isn’t just the gesture but the fact that Villanueva went against a team that typically moves in lockstep on any and all issues, including for example their unanimous “no” vote on the 2011 Collective Bargaining Agreement.

There is Correct Thought for the robots and there are Free Thinking citizens who are essentially cultural dissidents. One is a fad for weak-minded sloganeers and the other involves critical thinking and moral courage.

What a tool- it’s amazing and unfortunate from one sentence to the next. Then to add the nothingness of ‘it is what it is’ to the end. Bravo Ben you dumbass.

Sounds like the offense needs a new captain.

I saw Bomani melting yesterday about Villanueva and Eifert both hijacked the message of the league

Kinda took it the other way. I think he meant "unfortunate" in the way the media has blown it up, not unfortunate because Villanueva actually did it.

It's annoying that Ben thinks it's "unfortunate" but at least he acknowledges Villanueva is free to do what he wants. At the end of the day that's all that matters. You can disagree with someone but understand they're not wrong for doing their own thing or having their own opinion. Too many people are convinced their opinion is right or "they're on the right side of history."

Unfortunately huh...

Ben should stick to raping women instead of opining on politics and free speech.

Antwon Rose was killed by police after committing armed robbery. I can’t imagine a much worse choice for the Steelers. Glad Al honored a hero

He’s saying it’s unfortunate that it’s even an issue, not that it’s unfortunate he wore a war hero’s name on his helmet

It seems weird that the article cut the quote off right there. Would love to see what the next sentence was here. Is it unfortunate that he did it or that it became a big story? Media cutting off quotes to shape a narrative is why no one trusts them anymore.

I'm convinced Roethlesberger has no critical thinking skills at all.

And how sad we have become as a people. It's amazing how far we have fallen in just the last couple of years.
