Played like garbage and deserved to lose. Simple as that. The first OT, especially, was a total goat rodeo. Holtby let in two soft goals in regulation, one because his defense decided to not defend. It was a team effort.

But... this team wasn't really going anywhere with its injuries. Oshie is out, I think they'll reveal a Kuznetsov injury in the next few days, and the loss of Kempny was huge. They didn't have the secondary scoring behind Ovi, and he couldn't do it all himself.

I do think there's some left in the core, but they need to rebuild the defense and find some secondary scoring. Last year, things broke right. This year, they didn't. That's the way it goes. It sucks losing, but it wasn't that painful of a loss. I don't think this team was going to win the Cup and the fates aligned against it. They were a good not great team that got cold at a bad time, and played with their heads up their asses with a two goal lead.

Oh well. Go Stars.

Nate is the best forward/center left in these playoffs. The top line is likely the best line left in the playoffs. Grubuar has been hot for two months. I like the Avs chances. Not sure if they are gritty enough though.

How would you rank the goalies left in the playoffs?

Honestly, in most cases, the best goalie advanced. They are all pretty damn good. I'd probably go, and don't hold me to this because I do think they are all pretty close:

1 Bishop (DAL)
2 Bobrovsky (CBS)
3 Grubauer (COL)
4 Rask (BOS)
5 Binnington (STL)
6 Lehner (NYI)
7 Mrazek (CAR)
8 Jones (SJ)

Lehner right now has the lead in playoff save %, but I don't really trust him to keep playing at that level. Binnington has a lower playoff save %, but I'll give him a pass for his great play in the regular season. Mrazek and Jones are clearly a tier below that top 5 or 6, depending on how you rate Lehner and Binnington. But any of those top 6 can steal a series. Definitely the top 4 can.

I just don't think they have the scoring after the top line to get there. Hard to win four seven game series depending on one line.

Thats been a Stars thorn for years now. But the 2nd line of Dickinson, Hintz, Zucca played amazing in the first round. The arrival of that high level play from another line couldnt have come at a better time now that the Stars will put the big boys on the top line together. Remains to be seen if it was just a hot series or if Dallas finally figured out a 2nd line. Stars are very dangerous w/ Bishop though if that line keeps it up

Isles in 6, may be the most boring series since the trap era Devils.

Boston in 6

Sharks in 6

Dallas in 7

Speaking probably out of pure bias, this is probably the most exciting series.

Both goalies have been lights out for most of the year. Have been playing their best hockey the past few months. Some big stars. Young talent. Both teams are not afraid to hit. Should be a war. Would be shocked if it doesn't go 6 or 7 games.

I'd agree he's the two-way player Gold Standard in these playoffs, and it's probably not close. And in the playoffs, there is nothing like experience.

I think the best series is clearly going to be Boston-Columbus. Boston is the best team left (I threw up in my mouth) and I'm super high on Columbus and how they are playing right now. Should be a skilled, physical series. The winner should be the favorite to win the Cup.

Agreed. Columbus-Boston is going to be a war. Even though I think the Isles take the series, wouldn’t be surprised to see Carolina take game 1 rather easily. It was amazing how fast they still were deep into OT yesterday. They don’t get tired.

i put a C note on the Avs at +120 to win the series. Let's see how they handle the EBT jinx.

The way that these playoffs have gone, I wouldn't be surprised if the Kings somehow found a way to get into them, then go on another Cup run.

Outside of VGK's gag job, my biggest disappointment so far was the Caps losing. I was really looking forward to seeing them going against the Eggman.

Somewhere, a creative zoo or aquarium is getting an animal to pick the rest of the Cup brackets. They sure can't do any worse...and one could be the next Paul the octopus.
