You are correct they are bad or worse. Had to stand outside Minute Maid in a torrential downpour one year because they refuse to let people enter during anthem... then outside new Globe Life when it was 105 out.... just let people in, my god. Im sure those who have gone to war thought, "I am fighting for liberty and ticket takers to keep the doors closed during the anthem!"

There’s also proper protocol for how you fly the US flag on your property. How many don’t follow that (especially flying political flags above the US flag)?

How many people do you see with their hat over their left shoulder? Looks like everyone breaks this “custom” in some way.
ETA: no wonder it’s not a completely widespread. It wasn’t in the code until 1976 and even then it wasn’t popularized until after 9/11.
And yes, it did stem from the pledge and people thinking they had to do it for both.

One that is rarely done is keeping the flag lighted at night. It’s why Disney world doesn’t use real flags down main street.

Look I hate Flopayama as much as the next guy but we never never put our hand over our heart during the national anthem growing up. That was for the pledge of allegiance.
