Will the viewers come back?

I guess I would watch something on a rainy day, but I’ve enjoyed participating in activities more than watching especially these last 3 months.

Do the athletes and owners realize that the demand for sports watching is not inelastic?

I have not gone through withdrawal symptoms and with the politicization of all things sports, I’m sort of disinclined to spend my money or my time in that area.

College football will be the big test for me. I’m done with NFL and all pro sports except major golf championships.

What sports will maintain viewership, fan support, etc?

I truly believe this is the beginning of a massive change in American culture. This has reached a point of no return. I mean we have college football players demanding schools change their mascots and school fight songs or they wont play. Schools are going to be forced to change their school mascots...or hell, change the name of the university all together (looking at you George Washington University...prepare!!). It just isn't as fun anymore. Nothing will ever be good enough. I may tune in, but it certainly wont be with the same enthusiasm as it used to be. Just wait until we start paying all these same college football players. The entitlement mentality is about to explode!!

I am not gonna beat my chest and say "I'm done" but I'm significantly dialing back my spending this year. I doubt I'll go to any saints game and will probably limit my LSU games to 2 or 3. I am not trying to make a statement even though I despise all the politics being injected into the sports I love. Ive just spent an absurd amount of money over the last few years attending sporting events

Cancel culture.

And the athletes that will then cry foul that they don't have a paycheck anymore.

Start your own league, see how that goes.

You don't have to go to the Circus, you went because it was occasionally fun.

Now we've learned we don't need the Circus especially when the Circus has become its own Circus.

Nothing would be a better fresh start and a reorganization of America and a reality check to prioritize things above sports and see where the cookie crumbles.

Athletes don't realize they only made a living based on demand. Sports are nothing different than saying I'm not gonna see that new Star Wars movie, it sucks and is full of politics.

People don't want that nonsense for something that's supposed to be a diversion in their lives.

Sports used to be but a fun escape from reality...now it is reality, so we don't need it.

I think the majority of viewers will come back but like another poster said I’m looking forward to not spending money this fall on trips to see LSU and the Saints play.

I think if things keep going the way they are currently heading you will see viewership drop. Now the question is will it be enough for the front offices to notice. Athlete's don't give a shite what you think. If you stop watching then you're racist according to their mindset. Sports used to be fun, but with it becoming an outlet for political spewing it's made to where I myself will be cutting back a good bit especially now that I've found other things to keep me busy and have fun with.

Just ignore their politics. I for one have missed the NBA and can not wait for it to start. I've thought about my bayou boys since their Sacramento game was canceled. I have watched all of Leo Dicaprio movies but don't agree with any of his politics.

I'll give college football and basketball a shot. Baseball post season

When sports come back people will be begging to watch. The issue I see is athletes complaining about money when they are RT every day that America is broke because of Donald trump

The wolves will leave the herd the sheep will enjoy CNN with a ball

Ratings will take a significant hit. Networks will force renegotiations.

That’s well said. I feel like everything hits a tipping point and then out of sight out of mind starts to kinda kick in. People develop new interests or realize that maybe going out in a boat, going play golf, performing other exercises/hobbies a better use of time than watching 9 hours of nfl on Sunday. I think plenty of sports will come back just fine but I’m not sure they’re going to have quite the demand they did a few years ago.

Politics is the new American sport. Red vs. Blue and the fans are rabid.

I’m done with pro sports. My viewership had dwindled over the past 10 years or so down to almost nothing anyway.

In 5 months you will be posting a thread about how you accidentally changed the channel to ESPN and Stephen A. Smith said something that you couldn't believe.

It's so easy for all of you to say you won't be watching pro sports now when, you know, there aren't any pro sports on.

I guarantee 90% of the people saying they are done will in some form tune in for the first week of the NFL.

This is all just snowflake-esque faux outrage.

Every example so far has shown there will be more viewers than before because people are hard up for sports.

The NFL draft, NASCAR, all record ratings.
