Rasslin’ getting the better of hockey, and by a good margin.

NHL playoffs only get good ratings if the Rangers, Red Wings, Blackhawks or Bruins are doing well. Note how Washington and Boston had the best ratings. Hockey in the South still doesn't work. Two Canadian teams beat the two Southern teams in the ratings.

Hockey has little traction in the South, it's true. Even casual NFL fans will watch games not involving their favorite teams, as most folks love to hate the Cowboys or Patriots or Tom Brady. They'll watch to root against them. Most folks I know can maybe only name 1 NHL player, ever. Maybe. And those teams competing out of Bumfrick, Canada will never draw big numbers in the States.

It's sad, as the Rangers' 1994 Stanley Cup run is some of the most fun and compelling sports I've ever watched.

Hockey suffers from the same issue baseball faces, people love watching their own team, but can't watch otherwise.

Champions League Final will beat all those numbers.

I’m curious how some of these NBA playoff games stack up against, let’s say, a Liverpool vs Manchester United match on Saturday morning here in the states. NBA probably still leads but I bet it’s closer than it should be for a domestic playoff vs a foreign regular season game
these games get like 500k viewers

In my view, this faces the same issues as hockey in the South. Try to imagine Joe Six-Pack and his buddies knocking-off after work. On the way to their trucks in the parking lot, Joe asks, "Hey, bruh: It's Liverpool and Man U, tomorrow mornin'. Who ya' got?!"

Back at work on Monday, they'd talk for hours about the one goal scored in the game. I just don't see it...

The NBA in the past 10 years has lost I think around 45% of its viewership.

The NBA has intentionally pushed away a fairly decent chunk of its base that has disposable income. Very bizarre.

I recently tuned into Inside the NBA on TNT for the first time in ages. I saw a Black Lives Matter logo is now a permanent part of the set. I changed the channel with the quickness. Blatant marxist messaging has no place in sports coverage. You'd have to really enjoy basketball to stomach this stuff as a conservative. I don't.

That actually wasn’t even a playoff game.

Also, less than 400k watch EPL games.

Meh, the NBA has been a shell of its former self since MJ’s second retirement.

I’m counting his retirement after the first 3-peat as his first retirement. Thus, his retirement after the second 3-peat is his second retirement.

Nashville, Tampa and Carolina would all beg to differ.
