Sporting News: How Urban Meyer broke Florida football

Even mentions the words "roster manipulation" in regards to Urban Meyer's time at Florida. Oversigning.com won't be happy with that. Of course, I'm sure Ohio State fans will have some sort of excuse about how Big Ten schools and especially Ohio State "does things the right way" and wouldn't dare let anything like that happen on their watch.

Saw this on SI.com earlier. Very interesting read.

Sort of a common story of all football powers that have ridiculous success.
Oklahoma under Switzer, Miami under Johnson, Nebraska under Osborne were all teetering out of control in their final years.
Success breeds entitlement among players as you accumulate a locker room full of 5-stars with some character issues.

how?
UF didn't recruit closet to the 85. in fact this is a big reason why they're having issue post-meyer
USC was in a similar boat with meyer

Because oversigning.com is about "oversigning" in name only. They are also concerned with "roster manipulation" regardless of whether or not a school is over the limit IF the school in question is an SEC school. The person who started oversigning.com (an Ohio State fan btw) only cites the examples of oversigning or roster management of SEC schools and not the numerous other schools around the country that also engage in the practice.

Time for you to back up this statement with data instead of spouting it as a fact with nothing to back it up.
The hatred of Ohio State is strong in you.

Damning article but Florida fans are happy with their 2 national titles.
Meyer is scum but he wins. That's what matters.

Could you elaborate? They may not have been saints, but I didn't get the feeling that Johnson was losing control, and they certainly seemed fine over the next few years.

Johnson had quite a few thugs on his teams.

props to the few buckeye fans on that board who acknowledge the change in perception of urban meyer once he was hired by ohio state...

I guess I misunderstood. I was thinking more along the lines of losing control of the locker room and things falling apart than a lack of discipline.

This article may explain why Meyer keeps hiring Stan Drayton. I knew there had to be some sort of reason, because he's an awful position coach.

I don't have anything against Ohio State other than the unapologetic hypocrisy of many of your fans. Urban Meyer (and all other successful SEC coaches for that matter) was the devil to many of your fans when he was at Florida but now all his faults and weaknesses are being excused as getting caught up in the sleeze that is SEC recruiting.
As for oversigning.com, the guy that runs the site routinely got embarrassed by those arguing with him in the comments section. He routinely praised Jim Tressel and was admitted to being a Buckeye fan. He constantly held up Tressel and the Big Ten league as pillars of virtue in his fight to rid college football of the SEC's renegade behavior. He tried to brush off any conversation of the Tatoogate scandal when it was brought up even though he routinely bashed SEC coaches for even the slightest conflicts of interest and questionable ethics. He got so thoroughly embarrassed in rebuttal to his ridiculous slanted articles that he closed down the comments section to his articles so that no one can challenge the erroneous information he provides on his website.
