How do you do it?

Here is my plan:

Public Schools:

Two classes, labeled upper and lower. 2 “class champions”

Private Schools:

Two classes, labeled upper and lower. 2 “class champions”

The 4 “class champions” play to determine the one STATE CHAMPION.

This applies to every sport. Not fair? Cry me a fricking river. It is absurd to have 10-12 “state champions” in each sport.

There should be no weight classes in MMA. Everyone gets a trophy!

Plenty of states go all the way up to 6A and 7A, and you want two classes? Dumb

How many states have 6A and 7A that are the size of Louisiana? Serious question.

We have damn near as many state champions as Texas and Florida. That's absurd.

We have 8 champions in Georgia. A-AAAAAAA. A is split into public & private due to all of the schools in that classification and there is a separate championship for both in all sports.

don’t think it needs wholesale changes, maybe just a few tweaks

Though I don’t see the point of class B. They all should be in 1A districts

1 private league for the small private schools.
1A and 2A public get merged.
3A and 4A get merged
5A and larger private schools in the big league.

4 state champs.

The two tier system is ridiculous. Don't like Curtis, Catholic, Parkview, etc successes? Coach better

LA should look into a division system like Texas. North Division 1, South Division 2, and New Orleans Metro Division 3, Florida Parishes Division 4. Let those Division Champions decide State Championships.

it just means more...

It really does when you’re not guaranteed any enrollment. You can explain most of the public school system like that

Kansas does (6A anyway) and Louisiana has a little less than 2 million more people

We also have twice the size population.

Ky has 6a with roughly the same population. It’s watered down and should really be split into 4.

I would go back to pre split and make it 1A-5A with 6A being a special league that can play outside the state and on TV. These are the teams that are wanting to be on the national scale and will be encouraged by the state and not discouraged. Your membership would be looked at every couple years with the ones being bad being sent down to their right sized district and the ones who have been very successful in the other ones given the option to move up.

This would allow Curtis and others to go out and find games from teams in Texas, Florida, Bama, etc. And play on ESPN+ or something. Maybe the state could arrange a streaming deal with ESPN.

As for 1A-5A. Private schools kids count as 2 when determining what class they belong to. This means they are playing up some since they don't have to just have local players.

Combine C and B for non football. Trim the private divisions down from 5 to 3.

I honestly like the idea of having a “premier league” type thing for each sport. I think it could work really well. If you have a certain power rating or win a state title in a two year time frame you get an (optional) invite to the “top flight” (6A) if not you stay in your class. If 7 teams move up take the bottom 7 and move them down to their correct class. Cap membership to 20 or so teams and draw up districts accordingly. Have a 16 team playoff to determine the champion and call it a day.

Obviously this is crude and would need to be cleaned up a lot but I could see it working well
