Dive to the pylon fumbles vex me. Own the ball in the End Zone.

But by current standards, that’s a Bingo.

That fact that no one here can even agree on whether the ball crossed or not means that there is zero doubt the right call was to uphold the call as it was on the field.

That isn't what that means. People here love to see a ranked team lose. Tons of bias.

I don't think it was awful to let it stand, and I don't think it would've been awful to reverse it.

Good to see the pedo supporters lose a game like that.

I think the main angle they showed looks like the nose of the ball crosses the goal line just before the ball hits the ground.

But, I think it's a bad angle of view. I don't think the ball actually crosses the line before it touched the ground

Currently in CFB, when a player is not established in bounds the play is dead as soon as the ball crosses the boundary plane.

Otherwise, an airborne player could score a touchdown by extending the ball across the plane extending to infinity despite being feet out of bounds.

Okay, I'm wrong...I guess I'm going off of old rules.

But that pic above is a phony curious line drawn to show it crossed the plane. Ball was on the ground.

The announcers agreed, the studio replay ref agreed, it should be reversed. Most people on here not being obtuse agree when you watch it in real time...and even better when you slow it down.

There's so many legit touchdowns always being negated because of going to the ground and crap like that and this is a TD?

I mean this won't ruin Penn State's season because obviously they're going to lose many more but that was not a score and their fans have a real beef.

The play was very close. The ball likely hit the ground before it touched the pylon, but it's possible it crossed the plane by a little first.

The replay couldn't 100% conclusively prove it wasn't a td, thus on field call stands.

Had it been called short that would have stood too.

Live the ref saw the ball hit the pylon and you can't fault him for just calling TD.

If you have DVR and cal slow it down further during the slow mo replay it pretty clearly hits the ground before it hits the pylon.

The ball definetely hit the ground before it hits the pylon.

You aren’t wrong. Look at the Smith-Njigba catch for Ohio State. The ball was caught beyond the end line. His foot touched down in the field of play. Touchdown.

Look at the Colt McCoy pass out of bounds against nebrasks years ago. The clock doesn’t stop until the ball lands 10 yards out of bounds.

Why was it a catch if he caught it beyond the end line?

Because he established himself in bounds with possession of the ball. Again, we’re talking about an airborne player who never re-establishes himself.

I’m sorry you don’t know the rules

That pic is an optical illusion due to the angle.

Yes, when you are trying to view 3D action on a 2D medium, unless the angle is literally 0 degrees, optical illusions abound. It’s why the standard of “incontrovertible evidence” is so hard to hurdle.

I’ve only seen the replay twice and wasn’t watching the game, but my gut reaction (without any sound), was that he was probably short, but that the call on the field was gonna stand if it had been called either way.

Btw, helluva play by that dude to get horizontal like that without his knees or elbows touching. Quite an athletic move.
