Looks like he came to LTU after serving as the interim at Texas Tech.

Looks like the late Matthew Perry, but I doubt he has any “Friends”.

This thread is dead by tomorrow if Cumbie just circles the wagons and let’s everything blow over.

Instead he addresses it on a local talk show and now this thing is blowing up on twitter. It’s only a matter of time before bigger names start picking up. Barstool lives for stories like this.

Bud Elliot w/ 247 just picked up on it and he has nearly 100K followers on X

Tech takes an L to Sam Houston on Saturday and Cumbie might not be the head coach at Louisiana Tech by Monday afternoon.

The burner Twitter account was deleted after they were exposed when someone said they knew who it was.

What will be fascinating is seeing where the team stands going into Saturday. There are only two options:

1. They rally around Cumbie. Put their arms around him, and say “Coach we got you” and beat the shite out of Sam Houston

2. They completely lose faith in their coach and Sam Houston gets their first conference win

I can’t see it going any other way

Can y'all send those 75 people down to Lafayette for the game against Southern Miss tomorrow night?

Hey, at least Cajuns will be bowl eligible after Saturday night. Attendance for all Louisiana g5 teams just sucks. Tech might give 1-8 Sam Houston St their first CUSA win. What a dumpster fire! We so sorry Skip Holtz, please come back.

As much as i hate to say it, option #2 may be better for the program long term. This BS coupled with giving Sam Houston their first FBS win could only speed up the process of getting Cumbie out of Ruston.

It takes a colossal frick up to get Tech fans and Cajun fans to agree to something. Somehow that stupid son of a bitch Cumbie made it happen.

NIL drove the nail through G5's heart. It's time to separate the athletes from the student-athletes and play for separate championships.

Yep

To call a football player at an SEC school a student athlete is wrong. Those kids are paid athletes.

Let’s stop pretending and let schools pick - do you have minor league athletes or student athletes? Pick a group and be done with the facade.

He needs another year or two to get his guys in to run the offense he wants.

Definitely can’t cut bait after two seasons.

Normally I would say yes, but many of the issues this year have been from "coaching" not players. Play calling mistakes, very poor clock management, just several WTF was he thinking types of things.

We also lost some good players to the portal due to his "lack" of air raid offense.

Not happening for a bit b/c everyone in CUSA signed a grant of rights for the duration of their 5 year TV deal.

Nope. This is loser BS talk. Plenty of G5 teams are doing just fine.

The Morning Drive coverage of this story this morning was interesting. They are the ones who gave this story new life by tweeting the Cumbie quote from their interview with him yesterday morning.

Basically said, Sonny Cumbie was one of the best coaches they’ve ever worked with. Genuine guy.

But then went on to say he screwed up by not giving a coach speak answer on the quote and that what he did was a bully move and unacceptable. They said he’s basically starting to crack under the pressure.

Reading between the lines, Cumbie’s seat went from warm to potentially the hottest seat in college football overnight

Not all G5s are built the same. They do not all have the same money, or budget, or attendance. Some private, some public. Some have huge endowments, others do not.

They really need to figure out how to get rid of him without the buyout.
