I don't necessarily agree with it but I understand the reasoning of why it's happening in this particular case.
These kids were told they had no eligibility remaining so they moved on. The NCAA at the last minute grants a 5th year of eligibility, meaning the kids that were told had no eligibility left now have an extra year. Had they known that before the draft and before minicamps, etc then they would have stayed in college in the first place.
The ones from the class of 2022 that are actually going to make the 53 man roster on an NFL team are not going back and players that have been in the NFL for years and now getting cut are not going back.
It shouldn't be an issue in the future, and it wouldn't have been an issue now if the NCAA had made the rule change in a timely fashion

Because the current high school class coming in and after 2022 have nothing to argue over with 5 for 5.

When is the last time players won a lawsuit against the NCAA and they all said "yep, were good now. This is far enough"?

Actually, as 5 for 5 states, anyone 23 or older is ineligible.
5 years after graduation OR 18th birthday, whichever comes first.

WRONG..... Only a player that was in the 2022 class can return to college because of the new 5 for 5 rule

No, because they will have made the decision to enter the NFL draft knowing they still had a year of NCAA eligibility remaining. They would be knowingly foregoing their final year of eligibility.
The 2022 class 5/5 players entered the draft and signed with NFL teams under the assumption that they were out of NCAA eligibility. The NCAA changed the 5/5 rule well after the NFL draft and after incoming rookies had already signed NFL contracts.
Once again, the NCAA leadership is fricking retarded when it comes to making calendar decisions. If they announce the 5/5 rule change in January, this isn't an issue because the NCAA could have set a deadline for players who declared for the NFL draft already to withdraw their names if they wanted to return for a 5th year of college ball. Or announce the rule change in October when its too late for a player to return because they're way beyond deadlines to enroll in fall semester classes. But nope, announce the rule change in June so its perfectly timed to create problems.

Once again, what makes you think any of that will hold up in a state court? What makes the NCAA limiting eligibility to 5 years and not allowing players to test the draft legal under the law?
