Shohei Ohtani just keeps finding ways to impress.

The Los Angeles Angels phenom failed to make it out of the first round of the Home Run Derby, losing a multi-round swing-off to Juan Soto, but he still received $150,000 for participating. According to the Orange County Register's Jeff Fletcher, Ohtani decided to give the money away.

Ohtani reportedly distributed checks to around 30 Angels support staffers — including trainers, clubhouse workers and media relations personnel — to thank them for their work on Friday.

What's more, the 27-year-old reportedly planned to do this no matter how the Derby played out, which means he would have been giving out $1 million had he won on Monday.
Oh but he can’t be the face of baseball. frick Stephen A

Shohei is the perfect human.

He seems to never do anything wrong, and always just has that big grin on his face

Angles need to offload trout somehow and become a winner. They have a good young core outside him. The rendon contract a problem now.

This reminds me of Daigo Umehara(a Japanese pro gamer) who won a tournament and donated his whole winnings of 40k to charity. The impressive thing was that he didn’t have much money at the time.

I’d have to agree. A report came out that his all star jersey sold for $111,050.

The next closest was Fernando Tatiana at $3,360. LINK

Pretty incredible. And that’s not taking anything away from Tatis. It’s just Ohtani has potential to be a once in a life time talent. I wasn’t on the hype train until I saw him live absolutely shite on a pitch. The sound that ball makes off the bat from him is unreal.

He’s THE face of baseball for a country of 125 million people. His sponsorship dollars will rival his mlb deal, even when he gets a mega contract.
