It is a peculiar thing. In modern football, corner is very important. It’s just weird to me that no white CBs are even on NFL rosters. None.

I think it’s maybe just a bias at an early age. Coaches naturally put black kids at CB/RB. White dudes never even get a chance.

i played cb in high school. was immediately moved to safety in college. the only bias was that my change of direction and fluidity weren't suited for the position at that level. had a sub 4.5 40 and ran a 10.65 100m, just not enough water bug in me. the stiff hips joke isn't just a joke.

this. There’s probably a scientific basis to this

Out of the 145 guys who have ever gone under 10 seconds for the 100 meters, I believe only two have been white, Lemaitre and Guliyev.

Yeah there have been corners like Richard Sherman who haven't had 40 times under 4.5 but I bet he's still fast twitchy as hell for his size.

Should be the Roger Wehrli rankings.

seahorn could only wish he was as good as Wehrli was.

40 times are overrated for sure. there's a prereq speed for playing cb, but it's just running under a 4.6.

being fluid and having agility are far more important. i was one of the fastest people on my college team, but couldn't move in space well enough to compete with our guys at cb.

It's probably some of that. Same premise as basketball. Would Luka Doncic have developed the same in America, or would they have told him to stand in the corner and shoot?

The best jokes are ones that are true but uncomfortable.

Teams should get a top 5 pick for drafting a white corner in the name of equality and social harmony.

As a hijack to my own thread, I was close to the field of play when the Saints played Seattle in the Dome a few years ago. Richard Sherman is a large human. I would have guessed 6’4”+ if I didn’t see him listed at 6’2”.

There was an article in SI or ESPN or some major rag that talked about why are great white basketball players really just coming from Europe.

And it talked about the stigma of the 80's/90's in America that white athletes were discouraged from pursuing basketball because they were told they had no shot at making it so they picked mostly baseball and football.

While Europeans, grew up playing in leagues with mostly white players and never felt that intimidation or societal stereotype to not play basketball just because they were white.

I would think simply based upon raw numbers that most organized Football Cornerbacks in the US are White( Middle school & High School). I don't think its that they never get a chance.

In the past Vick, Cunningham, McNabb, etc...may have been talked into playing Wide Receiver/ DB/ RB by non HCBU Colleges or NFL teams. The same probably happens now for young White Corners steered to play Safety/ WR.
