Ted Cruz is trying to solve a problem, but doesn’t even realize why the problem exists in the first place.
I listened to an interview with him about this bill and he was asked about the “Lane Kiffin” rule. He just said that they mimicked the NFL rule where you can’t hire coaches while the season is ongoing. Completely ignoring the fact that the reason why it occurs in college football is due to the academic schedule and transfer portal dates. If the transfer portal (and high school signing day) didn’t open until after the national championship game, Kiffin would’ve never left when he did.
It’s scary to see politicians attempt to fix a problem with a half arse researched “solution”. It really makes you think about other bills that they propose.
ETA: not to mention that a proposed hard cap would be unconstitutional without buy-in from the “students”

One of the bill’s key provisions would give conferences an option to pool their media rights — an idea the Big Ten and SEC have long claimed would not result in a financial windfall that proponents suggest. The leagues’ statement did not speak to that issue.
Pretty sure this is the biggest issue they have with it. From my understanding the smaller conferences could simply follow conference lines and outvote the SEC/BIG schools and get an equal slice of the $ pie. That will never fly if they have any way to avoid it

Well, the bill would absolutely fail a challenge in the courts.
It is a waste to begin with.
It is a waste to begin with.

Unless you come to the conclusion that legislatures across our country pass unlawful bills, that allows attorneys to challenge. Attorneys that bill by the hour.
I’m not saying that the above statement is entirely accurate. I’m not saying that it’s inaccurate, either.

Big Ten and SEC should just merge at this point.
Call it Big SEX.
Call it Big SEX.

Football Transfers should only be allowed after the spring semester and we should get rid of early enrollees.

Just curious. On what grounds?

Normally I would say this is just typical political pandering and there is still a degree of it here but in this case I truly think Cruz's heart is in the right place, no matter how misguided his views on this are.
