was that a charity fire? Because friends?

What did they gain by not waiting two weeks?

They still fricking suck.

But now they're out $7 million more dollars...why has shitehead Trev Alberts not been fired?...for basically wasting a year of athletic money on one guy? Just wait for the guy to suck more...then get the cheaper buyout.

Greg basically eviscerated their sports budge for the year by doing his buddy a solid.

I feel like it’s likely they paid him the same they would have for being let go on Oct 1.

Essentially leave now and get same or work more weeks and get fired. Also they probably had a chance to fire with cause if he fought it considering his bragging about making oline puke 15 to 20 times a practice.

From the reports and rumors coming out of there, it seemed to be a matter of when and not if. the powers that be clearly thought he'd cause more harm to the program by staying 3 more weeks than they would if they waited.

Pure speculation from my end but I'd imagine this could be a "save the recruits" kinda deal. I don't follow recruiting closely but I do know with all the NIL/Transfer portal, the landscape has changed significantly.

I feel like you know nothing about why trev alberts was hired. The dude was hired because he makes the correct calls on tough decisions.

On the surface it may seem stupid, but Trev has earned a bit of breathing room.

Who knows? I agree, unless there’s some behind the scenes agreement we don’t know about, which is probably the case.

Frost knew he had to perform this year, and perform well. He was done after the Northwestern game in Dublin imo.

I'm not sure why Joseph was named interim, he's not a good coach
He already fired the def coord when you are shortstaffed to begin with

While I agree $7 mil is a lot, when it comes to firing and hiring coaches you have to act when the fire is hot. Who knows what would have happened in the next 2 weeks? I think it’s one thing to wait if the guy is questionable, but they were getting worse and the season really looked bad. It’s better to cut bait and move on focusing on the future and improving. Plus, 2 weeks is a long time when it comes to interviewing and decision making on a new coach. It gave them a huge lead on anyone else that’s going to be looking for a coach. They maybe be able to save a lot of that by getting a new coach for cheaper then fighting the market towards the end of the season.

Rumor is Trev wanted him gone last year but didnt have the booster support, so he forced Frost to fire a few of his buddies and bring it experienced coaches. After the Georgia State loss even the most delusional Frost fans knew it was over and time to move on.

Frost is an alum and favorite son. He had to give him as much rope possible to hang himself. At this point, $7million is a bargain if it gets them into the new coach pool first.

Yeah some boosters are out $7 mil dollars. It's an inconvenience to those folks.
I'm not sure why people keep making this stupid shite a big deal.

Is there a story there? Examples? I haven't heard anything about that.

no idea if this is true, but some boosters said in essence, "fire frost ASAP, we'll pay the extra $7.5M, or you won't be getting our yearly checks ever again"

from what i've read, there are nebraska boosters with really deep pockets who are big fans of the program and don't care about having to fork over an additional several million in order to revive the program

Basically, Alberts took over a failing athletic department. Eliminated two of the biggest sports(football/wrestling), even after wrestling had just won 2 straight national titles and I believe 6 out of the previous 8 years.

They fired him before the OU game, because if Frost had beaten OU, they would have had to keep him.

Alberts essentially did do that. I believe Frost's buyout would have been millions more had he fired him after last season like he reportedly wanted.

The season was already lost, and Frost was a dead man walking. It was pointless to let him hang around a few weeks longer just for $7 million. That's nothing for the people who matter.

Send him off with a nice parting gift and begin your coaching search.

Time for Nebraska to hire from outside the family.
They're bleeding like a Romanov Prince and that is a tough place to recruit.
Of course, if they could get Omaha's favorite son involved they'd have more money than anybody...
Good Luck.

Frost has coached on both sides of the ball - I wonder if he'll be a candidate for rehabilitation by Little Nicky.

Apparently Frost was showing up late to practice and when he did arrive he was hungover...

Winning at Nebraska is a lot different than at USF
