I sure would like to know the person responsible (I'm thinking Clark Kellogg) for this idiotic phrase. The number of times hearing it the past couple of days is Madness.

Try this out:

Patrick Mahomes can Score the Football
Ronald Acuna can Score the Baseball

So fu%#ing dumb.

This doesn’t make sense when the defense has the ball

Neither does Patrick Mahomes when most of the time it’s a RB, WR, or TE that actually scores, or the kicker

You are correct, Kellog started this a couple of years ago. I couldn't stand him then and this makes me cringe even more. He must get paid by the word.

I'm watching a basketball, what the hell else are the players going to score?

It’s just a phrase. I’ve never even noticed it. Lighten up Francis.

Yeah it’s a little annoying. If you score something it means a utility knife was involved.

Really? It seems like Kenny Smith has always said it on Inside the NBA. Hell, I used to hear Porter Moser at Loyola before the Final Four year.

This article from Iowa made fun of this and other dumb expressions back in 2017.

score the football id be okay with. this would be a problem though considering the ball is not in your possession when you score.

Wasn’t it Spurrier who always used “football” as an adjective when it was unnecessary in the context. For instance, “ we got to draw some more football plays”

You don't score the ball in baseball. You score yourself.

That goes back way before Kellogg. I think it's an East Coast thing.
"Sit the bench" is another.

Maybe he's just tired of watching college basketball try to score the basketball. I know I am. There are solutions that would quickly turn the college game into something that more properly reflects entertainment.

Three point line goes to NBA size. Widen the paint and get the big man out of the middle. And the technical foul on the defensive 3 seconds in the paint solves guys camping in the middle and again clogging up the action. Do these necessary things and scoring and the spread schemes that go with it will soon be a reality. You are welcome college basketball.

Hubie Brown has been “score the ball” for as long as I can remember. That’s who I think of.
