That's what happens with most rapists.

Charlie Strong wouldn't put up with rape, his players respect women.

Sounds like a good plan and those players will benifit from a little positive structure. Many of today's youth are lost puppies with no discipline and now I know why I loved Strong so much. Boy, I really wanted him at Bama after Saban....

He better win in the next coming years otherwise that hard arse approach is going to get old very quickly.

I agree. But he better win quick regardless of the discipline angle. The old white billionaire boosters won't be as patient with Charlie as they were with Mack.

This will be Rich Rod at UM all over again.

He'll find trouble if he doesn't show promise the 1st few years no matter what approach he takes. Now the disciplinarian gives these kids the best chance to succeed on & off the field though. These kids/recruits need a parent like figure around while away from home, and not another friend. They've got plenty of acquaintances telling them how good they are while putting them on a very tall pedestals. I'm not talking about mean discipline, but just solid moral structure with accountabilty will do.

highly doubt it.

But then again, I'm not shocked by the amount of negativity from posters on CCS.

I'd bet that the backlash from the boosters will be big after this and a 4 loss season. Not to mention, it will not go over well with most of the team when Mack has been letting the run the show. Im not saying it will be the exact same as RR, but id bet Strong wont have support or success when its all said an done.

This comment in the article may be the most sensible one out there:

quote:

It's somewhat counterintuitive, but...

Many studies have shown that people tend to appreciate these sorts of restrictions. People recognize the limits of their own self-discipline and often embrace opportunities to bind themselves to good behavior, even though it means limiting their own freedom. I think most recruits will recognize that these rules—particularly the on-campus housing, are going ensure that they stay out of trouble, train harder, eat better, perform better in school, and maintain better relationships with their teammates and coaches.

If anything, these rules and standards are probably helpful in recruiting, not just because they’ll be attractive to recruits who recognize that this structure will help them be successful, but also as a screening mechanism. If being able to live off-campus away from the watchful eyes of coaches and teammates is a deal-breaker for certain recruits, that’s probably a red flag anyway.

On a related note, we may be able to take some bigger behavioral risks because the structure Strong is putting in place will help keep them in line. Instead of limiting ourselves to “good kids who graduate”, we can cast a wider net and help the guys who would otherwise be behavioral or academic risks to be disciplined and successful.

The kids at UT [Especially on defense] have an entitlement personality. That's probably half the reason why they are so soft. Strong isn't going to allow that kind of halfass BS at a program that still has the mindset as being "elite". Also, a QB like McCoy needs someone to put him in his place. The way he acted the last few weeks of the Mack Brown era was nothing more than a whiny little baby.

FWIW, I still find it funny that a number of you are shooting down Strongs guidelines to a disciplined program. Especially the people who thought Saban would be the perfect fit at UT of A.

You don't think the UT brass want the players to be discplined, attend class, and do things as a team?

No I dont think they will want Strong coming in and shaking things up. And I dont think the players will buy into this with the way things have been under Brown. I just think this will end up a disaster.
