Carolina must believe they can make it work.

Does that pay out seem insanely cheap to anyone else? He’s only 23 and has had Adam case as his HC

Cardinals got a 2 and a 5 for Rosen.

All the more reason not to overpay for someone else’s broken toy because they have draft pedigree

Also Rosen had 1 disastrous rookie season to go off of since being a top 10 pick. Darnold has a ton more film out there and it isn’t good.

All it took was one team to believe Darnold still has potential if he was in a better situation.

If there was only one team there to believe in darnold, then it makes the compensation given up to get him even worse. And from the sounds of it, the Panthers were the only team really after him. Jets lose pretty much all of their leverage there once the #2 pick is in and probably would’ve let him go for much much less

That’s all speculation of course, I just think that’s a high amount of risk on a player with as many question marks as Darnold, especially given how time sensitive his contract situation is

So does he start over Bridgewater?

Yes. Without question. Bridgewater won’t be on the roster by the end of the draft

Darnold sucks. He's a marginal upgrade if any to Bridgewater who is also not very good.

It'll have to be a trade because releasing him brings no benefit.

Bridgewater received a three-year, $63 million deal with a $15 million signing bonus and $33 million guaranteed. So releasing him would come with a $20 million dead cap figure and a savings of just $3 million.

As a Saints fan, this sucks. I think Darnold can really end up being a Top 10 QB.

As a Saints fan I would have rather them have used a 1st rounder on Lance than a 2nd on Darnold.

I think I remember reading one of the athletic guys reporting that the panthers have already talked about trading him with a few teams.

It’s possible they keep him, atleast until the QB injuries around the league start flaring up. I don’t think that’s their plan A though.

Pats, Texans, Steelers, Washington, Saints, Broncos, Seattle, Cardinals, and prolly a few others I’m not thinking of could make varying levels of sense depending how things shake out for those teams heading into training camp.

Cap is fake so I’d mostly ignore that part of it

Significant upgrade even if he's average. Teddy fricking sucks. A lot of Panthers fans were ready to give up their tickets if they rolled his chickenshit arse out again. We would've won 10 games easily this past season with better QB play.

I can hear Zach Wilson crying from here.

Scouts are saying that he, if made available as a draft pick right now, would still be the 3rd QB taken in this upcoming draft.

He can make really elite throws but he's inconsistent. There were a couple of throws in the Rose Bowl that made me think he had real potential. Louis Riddick tweeted a throw of Darnold's from the Jets that looked close to the Zach Wilson pro day throw everybody was freakin out about.

Darnold can look like Aaron Rodgers here and there but the problem is that Aaron Rodgers looks like Aaron Rodgers all game.

I always thought it was laughable that Carolina released Cam Newton because injuries, only to sign Teddy Bridgewater to a big contract. And now he likely ends up being there only one season.

I'd think they'll keep him around as a backup. No team is going to trade for that contract and the dead money makes cutting him, even post-June 1, very wasteful.

That's Marty Hurney for you in a nutshell.

It’s not really a bad contract at this point. Basically making low end starter money and you can easily get out of it after this season.

Panthers paid too much

That's nothing for even an average QB.

You never pay too much for a QB when he's still young.

Unless that QB is JaMarcus Russell.

Yea it’s basically an “expiring” contract.
