Salvador Perez hit his 318th career home run Saturday, breaking George Brett's Kansas City Royals franchise record, with a solo shot in a 3-2 victory over the Detroit Tigers.

With the Royals trailing 2-1, Perez led off the seventh inning with his 401-foot homer off Kyle Finnegan over the Tigers' bullpen in left. It was his 31st career homer against Detroit, trailing only the 36 he has hit against the Minnesota Twins.

Perez received an ovation from the Comerica Park crowd after the record was announced.

Brett, seen on a video message posted on the club's social media channels after the home run, held the franchise record for 40 years, having passed Amos Otis with his 194th home run on April 9, 1986.

Congrats to one of the best catchers to ever do it.

Playing for the Royals for his entire career, he hasn't been in the limelight as much. He's a perennial all-star and did it the right way.

In my humble opinion, he is a first-ballot hall of famer.

Crazy to me that Brett only had 317 bombs

Brett's philosophy was always "hit ball hard, not far"

Agreed. Seems like he's always been the consummate professional, and one of those guys on another team that's easy to root for from afar.

Definitely very good but a hall of famer? Easy there.

Judge plays in a little league park and uses steroids, of course he has more.

THE JUDGE is clean and cranks more dongs on the road than he does at home junior. Take a lap. Now stay on topic. Salvador Perez is HIM!

People have an irrational hatred for Aaron Judge. He rightfully called people out for cheating and is better than their folk hero Shohei.

People have a perfectly rational hatred for pricks that bring choking arse Aaron Judge into a thread that has nothing to do with him.

Zero name recognition from me. If someone told me the Royals had a player on the roster with 300+ home runs, all for KC, I would literally say, "lol nah."

I didn’t Brett had that many home runs. He was more of a high average hitter and a very good one at that.

Salvador Perez is and always has been a below average defensive catcher yet has won five gold gloves like Derek Jeter. But he’s a very good player. Hall of very good, not Hall of Fame. Have nothing against the guy as the Royals are my second team behind the Cardinals. Just telling it like it is.

"Aaron Judge has hit 200 home runs at home compared to 185 on the road over his career, with a higher batting average and OPS at Yankee Stadium (.301/.1.058) than on the road (.282/.988). "

You're wrong again junior. You're schtick is old and tired.

Take a lap. Go frick yourself. Anytime at any Sonic.

Am I doing this right?

Perez has a World Series trophy and WS MVP, and World Baseball Classic. I guess he doesn’t choke on the dongs like Judge does…….
