And they were unranked when you played them and finished 5-7

They were a Big Ten opponent at one of the hardest road venues in the country being predicted to win 8+ games until they lost their QB playing Bama for the season.
quote:

By which measure? Not doubting you necessarily but the highest one for Bama i could find was 9. The thing about SOS we act like it’s some Pythagorean truth but there’s a lot of variation.

It was top 5 from an FEI standpoint for most of the season I’d have to check where it ended. Either way top 5 or top 10 doesn’t equate to IU intentionally scheduling no P3 opponents and playing a two game season before getting a playoff invite.
quote:

More loses? I saw a SOS with Florida #1 should they have made the playoffs? At what point do actual results matter?

It’s been a combination of wins and SoS since the beginning of time or 11-1 Sun belt and CUSA teams would’ve been getting BCS and 4 team CFP invites.

Yes and no.

If they were guaranteed based on Conference record / criteria you could add a strong P4 or 9th or 10th conference game with no fear of jeopardizing a playoff spot. Cupcake scheduling wouldn't provide an edge like it does currently.

I watched some of the ACC media days. They are favoring a plan that gives the SEC, Big10 & them four slots each, and gives the BigXII three spots.

Why should the BigXII get a spot? OU made four playoffs and never won a game. Them and Texas leave, they added sh*t, and they think they deserve three spots?

Please accept my apologies. I'm using an old laptop that I had handed down to my dad. He used to knock it over a lot, so it's got a dark corner and it's kind of hinky.

A hinge on my good laptop broke. It's sitting in a shop waiting for parts.

It already is.

Every single change made to college football from 2010(ish) to now has made the sport worse for fans.

Big 10 all play 9 Power 4 opponents

Why should the schedule a 10th? Makes zero sense when some SEC teams only play 8 Power 4 opponents

Why does the acc deserve four teams

They were unranked if they were projected to be a 9 win team they would have been in the preseason rankings i would think.

Exactly yet I hear constantly from SEC types “SOS doesn’t matter”

quote:

or 11-1 Sun belt and CUSA teams would’ve been getting BCS and 4 team CFP invites.

Well we’re not talking about CUSA or SunBelt teams. The “controversial” teams were Indiana, a B1G team (imo if Michigan or some name team had their resume no one would complain) and SMU/Clemson from the ACC. If SMU had won the ACCCG another SEC team (Bama i would guess since they were the highest ranked team not in) gets in. Clemson won it so they got the auto bid and as i said before i don’t think they wanted to penalize SMU for losing the CCG, especially with it close. Maybe if Clemson smoked them but that’s not what happened.

Here’s another thought maybe the SEC just wasn’t that great last year? What’s the signature OOC win for an SEC team last year? UGA beating Clemson?

In the playoffs Texas won 2 games against teams that got auto bids and were outside the top 12 and they need 2 OTs to beat ASU. The 3 losses by SEC teams were all double digits

I want fun OOC games and hope the Buckeyes keep their upcoming series, but this is basically it. Big Ten schools shouldn’t go out of their way to schedule premier OOC games if the SEC continues with an 8 game conference schedule. It’s pretty simple.

Ultimately I think we will see a SOS metric that will determine playoff spots. Along with it you will see the long rumored scheduling agreement between the SEC and Big 10 that allows both conferences to manipulate their schedules to give both conferences 4-5 bids each year.

Not bad for the fans who are sick of watching their teams play cupcakes each year.

You realize there are multiple rankings right? Most had them at 8 or so wins making them a very respectable opponent going into the season particularly early on the road at Camp Randall.
quote:

Well we’re not talking about CUSA or SunBelt teams. The “controversial” teams were Indiana,

Indiana and SMU didn’t play P3 schedules, they played what amounted to G5 schedules and didn’t get punished at all.

IU wins:
FIU
W ILL
UCLA
Charlotte
Maryland
Northwestern
Nebraska
Washington
MSU
UM
Purdue

That means they beat one team with a winning record and finished with the 63rd ranked SoS in FEI.

When you figure nearly every team in the sec who was in contention played a top 15 FEI SoS if we aren’t adjusting the rankings to account for that get ready to see every major power follow OSUs lead and cancel every difficult non conference game they can get away with.

My point is that the criteria was written by morons and needs to clearly delineate what the criteria for inclusion is using objective data points or we will continue to see bad decisions made for subjective reasons by people who don’t know what the hell they’re doing.

We’re playing 10 Power 5 teams in each of the next 10 seasons

I thought you were exaggerating but holy shite, yall do have 2 P4’s OOC scheduled for the next decade. And quite a few good ones too…home and homes with West Virginia, Va Tech, Oklahome St, Ohio St, Notre Dame. Florida St too but nobody could’ve predicted they’d have fallen off a cliff

Hate OSU.. hate ryan day. But i 100000% agree with him here. Sec should be doing the same. Makes no sense to schedule tough ooc games and others be rewarded playn tard schedules.
