Can the B1G go back to 8? They’ve got a current TV deal, I assume their network partners probably put something in the contract about the number of conference games they were purchasing. That seems like a total non starter, and makes me doubt the rest of this info.

I really think the way this year is going, the sec will stay at 8 for a while. When there is a really good chance that several deserving sec schools are going to be left out of the playoffs because lesser teams, that haven’t played anyone, will get in this year. The sec has cannibalized each other this year. Uga, Texas, ole miss, a&m, Tennessee, LSU and Alabama can all make it but having to play each other in some form, won’t. Yet there are 4 teams in big 10 that can all finish with 2 or less loses. Don’t forget all the crap in the big 12 and ACC.

Would love this. I know the next several years, Ohio State is playing Texas the next 2 years after, they are playing Alabama and then followed by playing Georgia. Looks like SEC/Big 10 Challenge is already starting. Would love to get LSU on the schedule as well!

The reality is this is pretty easy for P2 programs. It involves administrative and coaching salary cuts across the board. They just don’t want to do that.

The answer will actually be material budget cuts for non-rev sports. No more charter jets for soccer teams and things like that. You’ll also see some team and scholarship cuts too

But I’m absolutely against the big ten going back to 8. The only good part of the expansion is the extra game and fun matchups like playing a USC, Oregon, or Washington. Going back to 8 to add a game against South Carolina is not interesting, especially when you know to max revenue they will jam as many into off campus “neutral” site locations.

NCAA football is going to be a league of the SEC and Big Ten. This has been mentioned for the last 10 years and has been in the works for longer than that. I don't know why anyone is surprised.
First you break up the Big East. Then try and break apart the Big 12. Then they do manage to break apart the Pac 12.
The final move will be to break up the ACC.
You'll have a superconfrence of the Big 10 and SEC with the rest of college football teams either dissolving their programs or making their own mega conference but won't be allowed to play for a title as we know it.
There are major college football programs that are struggling right now because of the NIL. They can't compete financially.
College football, as we knew it, is dead and has been for some time.
It's great if you're a fan of a major program with millions to spend. Not so great for everyone else.

JFC I flat out DGAF about 3/4 of the Big 10 and now we're going to be forced into playing games against f-ing Rutgers, Purdue, Maryland etc.

As someone who moved to MN, selfishly I would love this.

If LSU ever played at MN I would fall over myself with excitement.

So, Sankey the Yankee is selling us out to the B1G instead of another SEC game?

My take home from this is the network deal won't be upgraded if the SEC plays nine conference games instead of eight

It would be but the SEC wants a ton for it from espn and Disney doesn't doesn't want to pay it.

Yes, I think Fox, CBS, and NBC want 9 conference games to increase the chance of let's say Iowa v. Oregon and Michigan State v UCLA instead of Iowa v. Northern Iowa or Michigan State v. Ball State. Ohio State and USC is more possible with a 9 game conference schedule than a 8 game conference schedule.
